This year, Ludlow is pretty much head and shoulders above the rest of the teams in their conference and, for the most part, many of the teams in the All 'A'. You can't fault the Ludlow players and the coaching staff for having the talent and determination to develop into a dominant "Class A" team this year. Thirty point wins are pretty much inevitable when you are included in a conference with teams that are in the rebuilding process.

 

Also, I was at the game yesterday and personally witnessed Ludlow's JV playing most of the fourth quarter. With so much on the line, I can't imagine any coach risking a game by putting the JV in even a little too soon. However, as is pretty much the standard, when the fourth quarter rolled around, the JV did make their appearance and stayed for the remainder of the game.

 

This group of girls is the first group that Coach Stamm has had since the 8th grade. As it's been said in earlier posts, most teams are in a re-building or in the first year of a new head coach. NCC is different as Coach Dawn is a seasoned leader who'se record speaks for itself. His girls have also played together as a team for years, just under a different coach.

 

Lloyd Memorial has a coach who is in his first full season. They are very young and still learning Coach . Silver Grove is in it's second year of the program and also has a very young squad. Coach Kues also has a record that speaks for itself before taking over the Trains. They will get better. They are winning games this year that they lost last year. Newport is winning games with Coach Vories at the helm. They are 6-6 currently. Bellevue is in transition with Coach Sorrell and losing Slater to graduation doesn't help. Cooper is having trouble with everyone due to a group of girls with no varsity experience. Again, not making excuses, just stating facts. In the Lloyd Memorial game after Christmas that we broadcast, the JV was in for most of the second half. Don't forget that Ashley Daugherty was out for 4-5 games with an injury as well.

 

Ludlow is one of the smallest schools in the "A" classification in NKY. They are an established team that has played as a team for a few years. That's why they are winning. It does soound like 242 has an axe to grind. Even subbing in the JV girls doesn't mean that you just put up a sub-par defense and don't press when the game is "lost" for the other team. Those girls need work as well. If they can hit the three like Ludlow's girls can, let them. Varsity experience will only help the younger players grow. When the seniors graduate, I think you call that "re-loading" instead of re-building.

49-23 after 3 quarters, I guess it makes sense to play your starters into the 4th quarter?? 1) I would think a 26 point comeback looked to be likely??, 2) why chance getting your better players getting hurt and not being more liberal with subbing to keep everyone fresh for the upcoming games??, 3) when the other team decides to admit defeat and play some less experienced players, let keep shooting those 3's and trapping the ball. While I did not stay for the end of the game last night, this has been the procedure in the past.

 

So I guess I am missing the point and it is just "sour grapes" as you have stated, but if you do not find the conference that you are in a challange and feel that Ludlow is building a more competitive team than do what other teams in the 9th have done and petition to move to the Division II conference?? Teams such as Holy Cross and St. Henry were at one time a Division III school and seem to be doing just fine now.

 

Again, may not know much, but just a suggestion.

And with that experience as a team, big wins are inevitable. Look at your traditionally successful teams: NDA, Boone, Highlands, NCC, etc....They put up big wins all the time against lesser opponents. Do you raise the same questions about these teams or do you just have a personal vendetta against Ludlow?

As for an ax-to-grind or vendetta this is not the case. What I am merely trying to say is that many teams have been in the situation that Ludlow has been in this year with an overload of talent and had success which is well deserved, but there is also a way to show sportsmanship at the same time. While I have only seen Ludlow play a handfull of games this year, maybe it may be by bad luck, but there were times that the ball could have been advanced up the court with out a fastbreak and sets of the offense could have been run while teams were down by large margins. Running 4 or 5 passes out of the offense, not looking to fire up 3's while teams are in a zone will not only keep the clock running but also keep some of the teams mentioned above from being embarrassed. Before it is said, I am not saying to take 10 second counts while advancing the ball up the court, but not looking to run out on teams that are very overmatched and are playing with what is obvious less talent that what they are playing against may be the correct move.

 

Nobody is trying to discredit the success Ludlow is having, all that is being mentioned is suggesting to look at the scores how they may have been able to keep them somewhat respectable. It is mentioned that some of the other schools such as Highlands, NCC, ect.... have had some large margin wins, which is true, but they are not as consistant due to the fact of strenght of schedule. We all know that most of the DIII teams are not as strong as Ludlow, but all that is trying to be stated is to try to respect those teams that are not as strong and coach with the knowledge of have been in that position. As Buttels stated, Coach Stamm has had these kids since the 8th grade and without going back in history I do remember those days when Ludlow was on the other side of the scoring and Coach was not always the happy the face you see today. There will come a time when the talent cycle comes around to not be as strong and if I were in a position of being that coach I would hope teams would respect my team not being as strong and to try to keep the scores repectable.

 

Just trying to stick up for the those schools that continue to be on the lopsided end of the scoring;)

I wasn't going to get involved in this crossfire, but my two cents worth is this on the whole Ludlow winning by 30+ in a lot of games. If it is true that the JV players are in during the 2nd half or 4th quarter at all, you can't tell them to not play hard. They are trying to earn more minutes and get better. To tell them to play keep away and everyone touches the ball before someone shoots or whatever to me is more offensive to the other team than just playing basketball.

IMO, teams should play as hard as possible until they build a comfortable lead where they know the game is in hand. In some cases, it may be a 30 point win. Villa Madonna recently came back from 33 points down in the third quarter to send a game into overtime. Ludlow is also not the only school posting wins this lopsided: many of the teams in DIII are just not very strong this year, and Villa has also had some pretty large wins. Ludlow is not at fault here; you have to do what needs to be done to secure the game.

NCC is very physical and very well coached. Those girls get after it. Extremely disappointing performance from the Lady Crusaders. I thought this game would be a 10-12 point separation. I believe the Lady Crusaders had 37 turnovers. They kept throwing and dribbling into the NCC traps. Close game thru 1+ quarters, then NCC started to pull away mid 2nd quarter. They stretched the lead out to 34 points at one point in early 4th quarter before mass substitutions. NCC shot very poorly from the field in the 1st quarter and then caught fire the rest of the game. Hopefully they won't be paired against Highlands in a first round district game this year, because both of those teams deserve to be in the Regional Tournament this year. I believe both of them have a chance to win the Region. Based on this game, the disparity between the #6 team and #10 team in the coaches poll is huge.
