Playing out of state teams

Featured Replies

I always wondered why Ky teams schedule out of state teams. With all the good teams in ky ,why not schedule in state teams. One year I went to Rupp when the Lexington Schools played all of the high ranked prep schools that were out of state. As well as I can remember ,the Lexington Schools won 3 out of the four games. I guess it sounds good if you can beat someone out of state. Also ,how in the world can they rate these teams as being the best across the nation. I think thats a joke. Example, Scott Co should have beaten the best team in the nation , but didn't ,and then gets beaten by Holmes. If Scott would have won the Dunkinville,(spelling ?) Texas game, would they have been ranked no 1 in the nation and after the Holmes game ,wouldn't Holmes be ranked no 1 in the nation. That rating like many other team ratings is somewhat a joke.

Ratings are always subjective to those, whom are ranking them and the teams which they have seen. Often national rankings, will be a result of the Players which are being highly touted and programs, which have sustained excellence.

On any given day, you could have many of the top KY teams, competing and defeating those which are Nationally ranked and vice-versa. As for why, many times teams from out of state, contact you with regards of playing in Kentucky. Invites to tournaments and match-ups, are important also.

Regardless of the sport, it's fun and interesting to occasionally play out-of-state teams to see how you fare against their best and what types of things they do similarly/differently.

Dead on.

Sometimes there is a connection with coaches and/or schools, plus some teams that don't play in out of town tourneys play these games for an overnight trip.

For the kids, it "feels" different to play a team from out of state. It adds a state pride feel to the game.

For a few NKY schools, there is a benefit to playing GCL teams. Those teams are very physical, deep, and defensively solid. It reveals your team's character.

^ excellent point. Great way to play a Louisville caliber team without giving up an in-state game on your record

This can be a good thing and a bad thing it allows the state to test there skills according to other states teams but also takes the teams to levels that they arn't usually at.
