A few observations about Highlands, SK, Beechwood and NCC.

Item: Don't hate Highlands football; Admire it.

The Skinny: It was a few simple words said by one of Highlands' players rather quietly to a handful of teammates following the Bluebirds' Class 5A state championship win over Christian County that probably best defines the program.

"This is why we do all the work in the offseason, guys; this is what the payoff is," senior Josh Conner said while the players waited for the postgame awards ceremony to take place.

......It should be noted having great players doesn't always mean a team is going to have success. Great players alone don't account for Highlands winning seven state championships in the last 15 seasons under Dale Mueller. Extreme hard work, dedication and a high level of execution to go along with those great players is what has helped the Bluebirds continue to win.

Rest of story:

Of all the articles leading up to the championship games and the day after the games, this one is by far my favorite.

Nice article

Nice write up for the Birds. As I was reading that, I made the comment that you could substitute Trinity in for Highlands and the article would be apropos. I bet that is the case for the majority of successful teams in the Commonwealth.
