Holmes top polls

Featured Replies

From nky.com:

Holmes, winner of two straight Ninth Region titles and three of the last four, is ranked No. 1 in the Enquirer boys' basketball coaches' poll.

"I've been here 12 years and I don't remember anyone having a cakewalk through the postseason," Holmes coach David Henley said. "Three of the last four years we went to the state tournament. The first year, Greg Rice hit a shot at the buzzer to beat Dixie (in the regional semifinals). Two years ago, Greg Rice hit two free throws to tie it up and send (the regional finals) into overtime. And then last year, at the end of the third quarter, we were up two (in the regional finals) before we got a steal and went up four.

This season's team might match last year's - or even surpass it - in hype, but it might struggle to equal the 2007-08 team's impressive 34-3 record. The Bulldogs' schedule is one of the area's toughest. Depending on how some invitational tournaments play out their schedule could include three defending regional champs (Hazard, Lincoln County and South Laurel), two defending regional runners-up (Bryan Station and Covington Catholic) and preseason state tournament favorite Scott County.

The Scott County game, scheduled for Dec. 14 at the Bank of Kentucky Center, will give Henley an early barometer of his team's abilities.

Also inlcuded in the article is a few paragraphs about Highlands' girls being #1 in nky.

I, for one, am shocked.

Well considering it was Highlands who got the other first place vote, I'm assuming it was either Schlarman or Henley who gave them the first place vote.
