Muhlengerg Co. High School?

Featured Replies

About 15 years after Central City, Greenville, Breman, Hughes-Kirk, Muhlenburg Central, Graham, & Drakesboro merged to form Muhlenberg South and Muhlenburg North, the County is considering an additional merger.

The Muhlenburg County Board of Education is moving forward with a plan that if approved would create one high school operating on two seperate campuses. Freshman and Sophmores would attend the current Muhlenberg South school while Juniors and Seniors would attend the current Muhlenberg North school.

If approved both high schools would close on June 30th, 2009 and would re-open in the fall of 2009 as one consolidated school. Enrollment projections would likely place the new school in the 5A classification for football.

Interesting.

I don't think that's done anywhere else in Kentucky. I'm not sure what the benefits are in this case, but it should make the athletic teams better.

Football has never really been very strong at either of these two schools, but they could form a extremely competitive basketball team. Some of Steve Sparks North teams could have been deadly if you best 2 or 3 guys from the other side of the county.

Would NOT want to be working the phones at the board office this morning, I bet some torches and pitchforks may also make an appearance. Presumably, South's coach Staples will step into some bigger shoes! Good for him, great opportunity!

Hmmm...

The latest, "greatest(?)" thing sweeping the state...multi-site campuses with "mega-teams"!

This has been discussed in other districts that I'm aware of...and in one of those districts, the ONLY reason they wanted to do it was to preserve the school's athletic dominance... They were terrified that their precious basketball team wouldn't be as powerful if/when the HS split into two...

I am sure. I also agree. Similar to reasons why Henderson County continues to add on to its mammoth campus. I was just congratulating a deserving coach, not trying to comment on social/educational trends.
