Final

Shelby dominated the first half, powering to big yardage on the ground behind that mammoth OL and throwing just one pass (incomplete). Oldham gave Shelby too many breaks...long TD run by Dy'lan Underwood called back by penalty...no fewer than 5 dropped passes that hit wide-open receivers in both hands. Shelby had 12 first downs in the first half. But two big plays on special teams by OC's Joel Cuebas took some of the starch out of an otherwise dominant Shelby first half. 1) After Shelby scored their lone TD on a 1 yard run by Nigel Beach midway through the second period to go up 6-0, Cuebas got a good rush on the Shelby kicker, Matt Nakatani, and Nakatani missed the PAT. 2) With just 7 seconds left in the first half, Shelby had 4th and 1 on the Oldham 2 yard line and lined up to go for it. A false start moved the Rockets back to the OC 7, and Nakatani lined up for a chip shot 24 yard FG, but Cuebas blocked it. Instead of heading to the locker room up 13-0 or 9-0, Shelby led just 6-0.

Oldham made some nice adjustments at the half. Offensively, they concentrated on running the football, with pretty good success (unofficially, 98 yards rushing in the second half). KEY PLAY: Shelby's Ty Barnett broke out of a crowd and appeared headed for a 60ish touchdown...but Oldham defensive back Tony Brown chased him down at the Oldham 8, and Shelby had to settle for a Nakatani 25 yard FG to go ahead 9-0 midway through the third.

Oldham scored on a pass from Chad Dennis to Tyler Oldham to make it 9-7 after three...this followed a Shelby muffed punt just inside Shelby territory.

Oldham made the Rockets pay again when they turned the ball over on a fumble, recovered by Kirk Yepko on the Shelby 36. On the very next play, Underwood took it in from 36 yards out for the final score, 14-9.

When Shelby tried to go to the air, Oldham's pass rush was overwhelming. On their next to last series, Oldham sacked Page on three successive plays with four different players.

The better team won, but hats off to both teams for yet another exciting Oldham-Shelby matchup...in rivalry games, all bets are off...and the fans got their money's worth tonight! Like most games of this type, a few plays decided it...
