Hensley Rating System 3A Top 15 (2008 Edition #2)

Featured Replies

Ladies and gentlemen, it is once again that time of year for me to break out the Hensley Rating System for Kentucky high school football.

The Hensley Rating System is a simple system as it combines the power ratings from the Lexington Herald-Leader's Cantrall Ratings and the Louisville Courier-Journal's Litkenhous Ratings. Once those two are combined, the average is then taken and that average is the number that is used in the HRS.

This is something that I have done for that last couple of years for the playoffs and attempted to do last year during the regular season but my school work came in the way of constantly posting it.

Some of you may agree with how the standings for each class and the state come out while there will be others that disagree and say that your team should be higher. Please remember that this is just the average of the Lit and Cantrall Ratings.

Also, this should NOT be considered an official BGP poll/ranking OR how I think teams should be ranked. This is just something that I like to do in my spare time.

So with all of that out of the way, here is the Top 15 Hensley Rating for Class 3A (previous ranking in parenthesis):

1. Central (1) 86.85

2. Belfry (2) 83.90

3. Breathitt County (3) 81.00

4. Elizabethtown (4) 74.60

5. Mason County (6) 71.65

6. Henry County (5) 67.75

7. Russell (9) 66.00

8. Sheldon Clark (7) 65.90

9. Somerset (8) 64.20

10. North Oldham (12) 63.95

11. Russellville (11) 63.45

12. Paducah Tilghman (10) 62.35

13. Estill County (14) 62.00

14. Harlan County (13) 60.45

15. Western Hills (15) 58.70

Henry County is way too high. They finished last in their district. Much of their lofty rating comes from steamrolling through a less than challenging early schedule.

Estill County is way too low.

Russell moves up two spots after losing at home to Mason County.

I totally agree with you on all points. I was surprised myself when I totalled everything up. The Lit and Cantrall Ratings seem to be a bit off, thus throwing my stuff off.

Didnt Henry Co. get beat by Western Hills?

They lost to Western Hills and North Oldham. They have a pretty good record outside of the district though.
