Penny is a good player, but I wouldn't say he is more of a forward than a gaurd. He is a true 6'5" and would probably need to play guard at the college level. He handles the ball nicely, but not good enough to be considered a guard at this point IMO.

It is just my opinion that he is more of a forward than a guard right now. At the three he does handle the ball nicely. This is also a kid I have watched play since 4th grade. I also wish CJ the best.

Penny is probably the best player in the 8th Region...but I have to agree that right now, his game is much better suited to the forward position. That said, he is extremely mobile, a decent ballhandler, and has been working on his perimeter game.

 

Depending upon the college he ultimately attends, his future might be at small forward...I can remember Centre College once starting a 6'4" kid from Oldham County at CENTER, and he had all kinds of obscene stats at the five for the them...but I for one wouldn't bet against this young man becoming a good guard!

 

One of the tough dilemmas for kids/coaches in HS...many of your best interior ballplayers in HS just don't have the size to play those roles in college and have to adjust to the outside game. Some can make the switch, some can't.

I do concur that Penny is far mor suited for the post. It might even be to the advantage of opoosing teams that he comes out of the paint. However as a high school player, not looking at college level skills, Penny is one of the best. His strength and size will make him a dominant player in the 8th region.

CJ is a great athlete. Last year, he showed the form of a mobile small forward. To play this position or guard at the college level he needed to improve his outside shot and improve his ball handling. When I saw him this summer, his shooting was improved. I can believe he can play at a reasonable D1 level just based on the skills and athleticism he has now. What is to be decided is how he would be used.
