Jody Demling: Holmes junior has tons of interest

Holmes junior Has tons of interest:

By Jody Demling

There has been plenty of talk around the state of Kentucky about what high school basketball player is the best of the talented Class of 2010.

And there are a bunch of opinions.

One player that is getting more consideration for that top spot is Covington Holmes guard Ricardo Johnson, who helped the Bullodogs to the Sweet 16 championship game last season.

The 6-foot-5, 195-pound Johnson is getting serious interest from some of the top Division I schools in the country. He was a visitor at Big Blue Madness last weekend in Lexington.

"I'm just trying to take it all in," Johnson said.

Johnson said Xavier, Kentucky, Georgetown, Cincinnati, Indiana, Butler, Akron, Western Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky have shown the most interest. He noted that Louisville has started to take an interest, along with several others.

While he's already made one visit to Bloomington, Johnson said he's not going to Hoosier Hysteria (as previously scheduled) this weekend.

And he's not ready to make any commitments.

"I like Kentucky and all," he said. "We came up there and were the runner-up in the state championship game last year and I liked (Lexington) a lot. But right now, I am just focused on my school and getting our team back to the state."

Johnson averaged 11.1 points and 4.8 rebounds a game as a sophomore. He'll be joined in the Holmes lineup by another top junior - Elijah Pittman.

Just thought I'd pass this along to others interested in who all is looking at him..

I cant remember a player coming out of NKY with so much Div 1 potential outside of Doellman.

I agree. I don't think Doellman even had this many D1 schools looking at him though. I think some of us may be witnessing something special up here in nky over the next two years. He and Pittman may be two of the most heralded recruits to ever come out of nky.

Why did we not see Pittman and Johnson on the AAU circuit at the end of the year? I know they played with the KY Players but was very suprised not to see them at the NCAA events this year.

I believe Johnson played with Queen City Prophets at Nationals in Orlando...

Why did they not play with the KY Players?

That's correct. Johnson played with the Queen City Prophets at nationals and had a very good showing.
