Prestonsburg vs Breathitt County Predictions

Featured Replies

Any thoughts on this cat fight?

This should be a very, very good game!

GO BLACKCATS!

Yes, this should be a VERY good football game.

At this point, Prestonsburg's offense is probably more explosive than Johnson Central's (Breathitt Co.'s last opponent), but the Blackcat defense is not up to the Eagle's standard.

Bottom line...there's a chance they'll be a LOT of points from both sides scored at Blackcat Field next week.

More later on this week...

Bobcats will dominate this cat fight.

The bobcats will have a fight on their hands, but I see them winning by 2-6 points.

How does P'burg compare to last year when Breathitt beat them 12-7, I think.

Breathitt County, compared to last year, has more potential but may not be quite as good yet.

They missed some big play opportunities against Johnson Central with passes that were overthrown or off the mark. They connected on a couple in the second half and got back in that game. Johnson Central was just too good of a team for BC to miss on big opportunities. Breathitt's weakness, just like last year, is that they don't have the size on the defensive line to stop a good power running game.

If P'burg is comparable to what they had last year, this one should be another good game.

Prestonsburg returns 8 starters from their offense and 7 starters from their defense. Quarterback Michael Burchett is our new weapon and I haven't seen a quarterback at Prestonsburg that looked this good in quite sometime. Burchett has one of the better receivers in EKY to throw to in Austin Gearheart. The Blackcats also return 3 o-linemen from last season along with their entire backfield that combined to rush for over 3,000 yards last season.

Breathitt definatley has the weapons to be a better team by season's end. There problem is that they just can't seem to get any quality stud's in the trenches. It seems that we always have trouble fielding a quality line on both sides. We are just too small to be able to shut down a power running game. i agree with 5Wide, we have the players to be better as the season goes on, they just have to get better and have a little more experience. We missed to many scoring oppurtunities in our last game. We just wasn't very focused on offense.

Breathitt Co. 35-27.

I see P'burg pulling this one out....P'Burg 27 Breathitt Co 21

Our offensive lines are usually pretty good. The defensive lines have been our glaring weakness in the last two or three years. It's more of a size issue than anything else, IMO. With the type of defense we have, Breathitt almost has to get a lead when they play a powerful running team. If they can force a team to play catch up, the defense can be very disruptive. But, if we get behind, those big teams can wear us down as a game progresses.

The key to Breathitt's chances in 2008 will be the passing offense. If it improves and gets sharper by playoff time, they'll have a chance to hit big plays and get ahead of teams early.

They should be tested with the schedule they play this year. The game against Prestonsburg should be another good one.

Breathitt Co. 38

Prestonsburg 35

Breathitt- 35

Pburg- 21

HA,HA then why cant we beg p-burg to play J.C.H.S.

Central almost did, in fact, "beg" P-burg to play... ;)

Central, though the largest and best funded program in this region, had quite the history of avoiding the better local teams in the pre-Matney era. These were years the Blackcats struggled to find competitive local non-district games. Bottom line - Central's previous refusals were remembered quite well when denying the Eagles games the last couple of years.

But time heals all and I'm sure a P-burg/Central (and P-burg/Belfry) matchup will happen at some point in the near future.

Now...back to the subject of the thread...
