Wayne,WV 33 Boyd 22 through 3 quarters. JV's took over in the 4th. The 1's and 2's played the first 3 quarters from what I could tell. Both teams moved the ball well. Wayne won the first half 3 tds to 1 for Boyd although Wayne got their third score with 12 seconds left in the first half on a tipped pass on a long pass to about the 4 yard line. The Boyd defender had decent position to deflect the pass and got his hand on it but it went up in the air and the intended receiver caught it and strolled into the endzone. It should have been 2 td's to 1 td at halftime. Boyd got the ball to start the second half and marched down to score. Then Wayne went down and scored. Then Boyd took over possesion with their 2nd string QB. His first pass attempt was picked off and taken back untouched for a TD. Boyd's second string came in on offense and took it down the field to score a td. So all in all it was a decent scrimmage with Wayne getting a "free gift INT" touchdown and 1 td by dumb luck(tipped pass). Wayne was the better team however. Good teams make their own breaks.

Interesting.... Wayne has became an elite team in WV.

 

Out of curiosity sake based on what you saw from Belfry and Wayne, how would those two schools matchup?

Right now I would give Belfry the overall edge. I think Wayne's offense is better. But I think Belfry's defense is better. I would take Belfry by a touchdown.

For Boyd to play Wayne as competitive as they did definately gives the Lions room for optimism.

Final was 41-22 Wayne, but score really meant nothing. Wayne scored first on a time consuming 70-yard drive...bunch of consistant 4-5 yard gains. Boyd answered back with a time consuming 70-yard drive of its own. Zac Wilson did a pretty good job at QB for Boyd County, and WR Danny Waller showed good quickness despite his lack of size on the drive. Wayne marched back down for another 70-yard drive, then Wayne stopped BC on 4th down and scored the tipped TD as the first half expired. BC's offense only had 2 first half possessions....Wayne 3.

 

Wayne's starters did not play any in the second half on offense or defense (the starting defense played just 2 series and substituted heavily on the first series due to the length of the BC drive). BC's starting offense scored on Wayne's JV first series of the 2nd half, but Wayne's JV scored on BC's starters right back. After that, it was the younger kids that played.

 

My final impressions of the scrimmage were that Wilson is an outstanding QB, and Corey Moore and Waller are both very sound wideouts. The defense would be a concern for BC, but it didn't give up any big plays so that's not so bad. The BC offensive line played pretty darn well, and the defensive front was pretty strong. Both teams kept it real simple on offense for the most part. Here's to hoping BC has a successful year.
