June 20, 200818 yr Wouldn't it make sense to only administer one program though, if there were the same regulations in place governing what can be bought with food stamps? Yes it would make more sense to administer one program but the state and federal government doesn't always deal with "sense". My point is, if you qualify for one program you shouldn't be able to qualify for the other one. I suppose my reasoning with that is it will leave more for others. Maybe that makes sense and maybe it doesn't but it does to me. When I retired they were in the process of putting WIC on a card just like food stamps. Now whether that has been done yet or not, I have no idea. The items acceptable on wic and food stamps should already be programmed into the system and a simple swipe would do. However, on WIC you have to get a certain product and a certain size, so this requires a visual exam by the person checking you out. Someone had a question about Farmers Market. Some states do have this where you can get some extra money to go get vegs. They were thinking about trying this in Kentucky. Now whether that has been done yet or not, again I have no idea. There is a program called commodities that if you don't qualify for WIC you can get food through this program. I forget the age limit on this.
