Clay plays very hard. They are not the traditional Clay Co team though. Not much height, but very good perimeter shooters. Coach Spurlock does a good job with his team.

Scott Co. took out Clay by 22. Clay plays hard and will probably be one of the top 3 or 4 teams in the 13th this year. Hazard won the other semi and will face Scott Co. Like to see Hazard pull off the upset but I will say the U. of Scott by 20+.

This is a tradtional Clay Co. team which features very good perimeter players. The better Clay teams of the 80's and 90's did not have many big kids, just solid guard play. The two kids on Clay's team to watch out for is Wilson and Reed.:thumb:

Heard Corbin had Hazard beat and went cold in the 3rd after taking an 8 or 9 point lead at the half. What happened that game? Also heard Corbin nearly pulled off a miracle rally in the last 2 minutes with some crazy defense? I look for Corbin and Hazard to bounce back and forth as the Mountains Top team in the WYMT Poll. Based on what I've seen and heard, both are legit Top 10-15 teams this year.

Rule 13

You don't have any team beat after leading at halftime. Just like Coach Pietrowski says, you've gotta play four quarters. If you think you have someone beat after two quarters of play, then you're in trouble.

Corbin scored five points in the third quarter and that allowed Hzard to get back into the game.

I look for Corbin, Hazard, Elliott County, Clay and South Laurel to fight it out for the No. 1 spot in the mountains.

I believe South is better than I thought they were. Trailed Scott County by one at the half, but couldn't put together four solid quarters.

South was within 4 of Scott Co in the 4th qtr. St. John fouled out with about 6:00 remaining and Wes Dean was on the sidelines recovering from a broken thumb.

If Euton/Jackson are eligible next year, Scott will almost be unbeatable. Without those 2, they will not win the state IMO. A lot of other good teams and talent out there this year. Unfortunately for most of the rest of the state, that talent is spread among several times. Not all loaded up at one school like Scott County.

 

Scott County needs to go ahead and build their new high school. I have heard the "athletic powers" in Scott County are fighting the new school, as to not dilute the athletic talent. But I think Scott is growing fast enough, that they would end up with 2 powerful schools, not just one.

Not that Scott County needs any defending but they had no time to warm up before playing South. I'm not discrediting South Laurel because they played their hearts out but it took the first quarter for Scott County to get their legs under them. When they showed up to the gym, the clock read 38 seconds til tipoff.

 

I know that no team is beat until the final horn but was just using that as a figure of speech. From what I heard, Corbin was outplaying them and had they kept it up, would have won. It's just summer ball so chalk it up as a learning experience. This tournament was good for all schools.

Without Euton and Jackson I don't see SC even making it out of the 11th.

 

As far as statewide goes, there are several schools who would be able to knock them off. (Holmes, GRC, Elliot Co, J'town to name a few)
