Warren East 2008/2009

Featured Replies

What does Warren East need to do to improve in 2008/2009? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

The program is in current "limbo" without a coach, there are some big names rumored to be interested but that remains yet to be seen, it was a program that had alot of success in the late 80's and early 90's under Tommy Compton, the recent Coach did a good job as well making them competitive again, he recently took a job in Clarksville Tenn. where he is originally from. I look for them to remain competitive in a tough district and region.

To be brutally honest, I don't expect much from this next team, and it's possible they could be without all five starters from last season's team.

Last year was Warren East's most successful season in nearly a decade, but because they play in the 14th District, that translated into yet another first round exit in a loss to eventual region champ Greenwood. Definitely gone from that team are three senior starters in Jordan Ellis, Deangelo Kirk, Demetric Ray that started all four seasons at Warren East in what I call the East reboot attempted by former coach Russell Malone. It's possible that upcoming senior Shenard Holton (IMO the most athletic player on the team) could return, but it will be following the football season and a time that he will be receiving a D1 scholarship from somewhere. So he may be there, he may not.

Immediate need for Warren East is a coach, and hopefully one that is a little bit more friendly with the Warren East population and players. Then it will be back to figuring out how to compete in the toughest district in the region and winning their first postseason game since 1997.
