d-dawg Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 Is it a trend that mountain teams or coaches stress offense over defense. I have noticed a lot of boys in AAU that have offensive skills but not fundamentally sound on defense or just can't or won't try to guard anyone. They only work on the offensive end.

Don't you think that in AAU offense is stressed more and less on defense.
d-dawg Posted April 27, 2008 Author Posted April 27, 2008 Don't you think that in AAU offense is stressed more and less on defense. Probably, although I saw some very defensive minded players this past week-end that could get the job done on both ends and that was what the college coaches were looking for. Defense is something you have to learn the same as shooting the ball. Being a good shooter is just one phase of the game. Defense is the non-fun part of the game and doesn't get your name in the paper.
gold sunrise Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 Probably. So I don't think it is just the mountain schools but AAU instead.
Log Mountain Boy Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 So I don't think it is just the mountain schools but AAU instead. Yeah you are dead on. Some teams don't play very good defense in the mountains. Also some teams do not play defense in central Ky, Northern Ky, and Louisville!

I saw some 16 under games the past month and the Mt boys just don't work on defense. You're right , there are weak defensive players everywhere but the ones I've been watching and they're from eastern Ky just don't like that part of the game. Don't consider Elliott a mt team.
JokersWild24 Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 Defensive ability begins and ends with foot-speed, a facet that many Mountain teams are lacking from top to bottom.
UKYBBALL Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 The reason you see AAU playing no defense is everyone is trying to showcase their scoring ability. College coaches can teach defense, college coaches can't teach some one to be a scorer. Scotty Hobson did not become an All-American by playing defense in the summer. He did so by showing his athletic ability on the offensive end.
