Surprising outcome.

Whitley must be alot better than most people thought this season. How did Barton do for the Jackets? Did they pitch him or save him for the district in case they face the Colonels again?

Barton pitched several innings last night. IMO the kid done pretty good. I'm sure that someone will correct me if I get the facts wrong but Barton started the 2nd. game and pitched until the 5th. inning. The Jackets were ahead 6-2 at that time. Conlin came in to relieve Barton and the Colonels scored 5 runs in the 5th. and 1 in the 6th giving them an 8-6 lead. Conlin pitched well but the Colonels had already seen him once last night because he was sent in to relieve Shelley in the 1st. game. I don't fully understand why the change was made because the Colonels had not hit Barton that well. Nerves seemed to be a big factor with the Jackets in the 1st. game. Base running errors cost them greatly.

Sounds like Barton had the Colonels at bay and the Bullpen came up a bit short. Barton has a bright future in football and baseball. The kid is a nice athlete for his age.

Baserunning errors may have cos the Jackets but in the end it was the Jackets inability to stop Whitley from having a track meet on the bases with something like 20 stolen bases in the two games and not one base runner thrown out by the catcher.

 

I was impressed with the Barton kid, I thought he threw it pretty well for an 8th grader, but like I said in an earlier thread no team should be having to start (rely) on a pitcher that young.

 

I thought it was as much the coaching of John Smith as the play of the Colonels that won the first game. Jordan McCumbers is a guy who seems to come up big in big games for the Colonels.

 

When the Colonels start to hit the ball they are going to a very tough team.

 

 

How about that field? If the infield playing surface is not one of the best natural fields in the state I would be surprised. Although the outfield had some rough spots, and looks to not have fully recovered from the drought last summer.

Nice athlete and a nice kid. He suprisingly doesn't have an attitude like some of the better athletes can get.

I agree, I do not know the young man but I know his father and he is a good guy who loves sports. His family is a very athletic bunch, his uncle Brent was a heck of a basketball player for the Hounds in the late 80's and early 90's. He(Jared) played at Corbin with a very talented group of incoming freshman athletes and was a nice addition to that group back a few years ago until he moved to the Burg.

He does come from an athletic family. His father was an excellent all-around athlete in the mid 80's, but unfortunately injuries cut his career short. He(Jared) is a great kid and has a bright future.

Jared was on the Corbin LL baseball team that lost in the state tourney to one of the really good Owensboro teams that went to the LL World Series. He was involved in a very controversial play that would have ended the game in Corbin's favor on a force out at 3rd base.........a call that the newspapers covering the game blasted.

Not only was Jared Barton's father a good athlete but his mother was also. She played sports from age 6 until 18. She was MVP basketball player for 2 years in Arizona and she also played softball, soccer, swim team. Jared is a wonderful athlete and does not boast at all. I am very proud of him.
