Hopefully the rain doesn't create a problem. The big problem for Newport and local area knothole teams will be if it rains chances are the games will be cancelled. City of Newport no longer has a recreation department and that creates a problem for field up kept.

Why is there no recreation department? I hope money is not the problem it would be hard for me to buy into that. Newport has to generate a lot of tax money with the levee and all. Also I believe property tax is high in that area too, Im sure they would have enough to finance a recreation department.

From my understanding the recreation department is a part of the public works department. Meaning there is no separate department for the recreation department at this time. Therefore the fields must take a back burner to other necessary repairs involving the public works department. Knowing a lot of the young men that work for the city I'm sure they will do everything within their power to get it all taken care of.
