[Lights Out 30]

Jackets got out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Then it was the Royals from then on out. Royals had some timely hitting. Brace threw for Mason and if I'm not mistaken held Nicholas to one hit. He had help from his outfield who made some nice plays behind him and covered a lot of ground. Good win for the Royals, way to get a season started.

Nice outing for Brace, who didn't give up any earned runs and kept the Jackets off balance the entire game. Royals broke the game open in the fifth with three consecutive doubles. Several nice defensive plays by Lykins and Cox in the outfield and a real nice play by Sutton at first base leaning over the rail.

Great Start! Mason County played the best baseball I have seen them play in a couple years. 1st inning there were a couple errors which had me sweating. Last year errors killed us. But then the defense tightened up and the bats were swinging. I really enjoyed watching the boys play like a team!!! It seems like everyone contributed. Great team win. Big Country gets props for pitching debut after a two year hiatous. Coxypup gets props for double driving in go ahead run and starting old fashioned hitting ralley!!! Drew had a great catch in left field down the line and #11 had a great hit and beautiful head first slide under tag at 3rd base. The only negative was Wiley trying to take out our own players going after pop-ups!!!! Keep playing together Royals............ One game at a time as a team!!!!!!:ylsuper:

I agree Stork. They played as a team last night. Everyone made a play and contributed. If they can keep up that kind of hitting and play that solid of defense they will be a sleeper. The only question I have for this team is pitching? I'm not saying that they don't have good pitchers, they are young and inexperienced. They just need to focus on throwing consistant first pitch strikes to get ahead in the count, and not try to stike every hitter out. Wylie threw a heck of a game last night and let his defense work for him, and that is what they are going to have to do all season because they don't have an over powering pitcher.

 

Jeris Carver(#11) came through big last night in the sixth inning with a double. He almost made a baserunning mistake (only a freshman), but made a good slide at third to avoid the tag.

 

Also, good to have Keegan McGee back this year, who sat out last year to play tennis. :confused: He made a nice catch out in right center last night. He is a good lead off hitter who makes a lot of contact at the dish. 3

 

One other thing I want to point out. There was a time last night Michael Feagly was up to bat, and a runner on first, had the steal sign. Feagly did a nice piece of hitting to the right side to allow the runner to advance to third. Just something that doesn't show up in the stats that I saw last night that wil help win a lot of ball games.

I agree totally. I think if Coach Murph sticks with a rotation with the young, inexperienced pitching staff it will bring consistency and a sense of knowing when you start. I know that pitch count is a necessity. Coach Murph needs to be wary of burning a guy out especially early. I think that a consistent rotation and the team playing together and looking at one game at a time the Royals will do well.

I was impressed with the team as a whole the other night. I don't know how many times last year I saw hitters way off timing and watching the third strike go by. I didn't see that this first game. Royals were alot more relaxed and aggressive trying to hit. Big improvement.

It is way too early to start celebrating but if the Royals continue to play defense and not have 3 or more errors a game it is going to be a good season. Last year ERRORS lost us alot of ballgames. I mean it was rampant. The first game was fun to watch the Royals playing some lockdown D. Especially at the end. I hope the Royals rally as a team, especially after Michael Fegley's accident last night, and play together. It was good to see Michael playing 2nd. We'll pray for you Michael.

Errors are what killed them last year. It was frustrating being on the mound. Keep me updated on Michael. I will pray for him.
