10th Region Performances

Featured Replies

Through the years there have been some great individual performances as well as great team performances in the 10th Region. What are some of the performances you have witnessed over the years that stand out? The games do not have to be limited to the district, regional, or state. It would be awesome if we could identify at least a game or two from each team in the 10th Region (past members of the region as well). One game I remember was the Deming vs. Pendleton county game in the district. Great game and a great performance by Stephen Staggs.

Not being a lifer around here, I know I missed some great games over the years. But after pulling up Billy Ray's name, my goodness it would have been one heck of a game to see. Even if the Royals came up on the short end.

This is from the Herald Leader, March 12th, 1995:

MAYSVILLE -- Billy Ray Fawns put Montgomery County on his broad shoulders and carried the Indians to their first-ever 10th Region boys' basketball title, scoring 47 points and hitting a pair of clutch three-pointers to help beat three-time defending champion Mason County 99-92 in double overtime last night. The classic showdown, played before a packed house of 6,200 fans, also featured a magnificent 44-point effort by Mason County's Shawn Myrick.

Staggs was a PTPer in the 10th Region that was for sure, he single handedly won the 38th district title in 1994. Here are some other great 10th region names, Talbert Turner Jr(imagine a 3pt line with this guy), Orlando Myrick, Alvin Sims & Juan Byars, Cory Williams, Derek Robinson, Chris Harrison, Patrick Kelsch, I have seen all these guys play at one time or another in the 10th Region, some greta talent.

Yes, the Billy Ray vs. Shawn Myrick show was unforgettable. I also remember many of the showdowns between old Maysville High and Mason County. I remember the Fieldhouse would be packed!!
