I agree 100% with you. With potentially 4 starters quiting, things just happened. With Noble leaving for the sake of family. The two fugate brothers and combs quiting makes me wonder what is going on, they all three were phenomenal athletes that could have helped Breathitt claim the 14th region title.

 

I am not sure that there is a phenomenal athlete on any team in the region, but it does hurt to lose players. When kids are starting and they are still not satisfied surprises me. I guess they wanted to be the leading scorers instead of accepting a certain role.

Sort of makes it sound like things just happened. But with about 3 solid players electing not to come back out this year, Noble leaving, the 2 Fugates quitting mid-season, as well as the Combs kid quitting mid-season, and I'm told only one or two freshmen came out for the team this year? Doesn't take a genius to figure things out.

Two Allen kids and Epperson I think just to name 3. As for the freshman one has to figure that more then one or two kids played basketball in the 8th grade?

What defense is Hatch playing now, mostly man or mostly zone, or a big mixture! Graves was always one of the leading defensive teams in the state while Hatcher was there.

Ryan Allen played last year, but I don't remember any other Allen that played. I remember the Epperson kid playing a little JV last year, but I don't remember him playing on the varsity. I don't think with the exception of maybe Ryan that the other two would be impact players this year. I think the biggest loss was Noble leaving. They haven't really been able to find a solid PG to replace him. The younger Fugate also hurt them some when he left, but he didn't seem to be the answer for the PG position. He was better suited as an 2guard.

Breathitt was 5-5 when they quit. I don't disagree that it hurt when Fugate quit, but he was not their answer for a point guard. If he would have stuck with it, he may have developed, but I guess we will never know. I hope he is successful wherever he decides to play next year.

True, and now they're having a losing season. You may be right about Fugate and the point guard thing. I never was sure what a point guard was supposed to da anyway.

It is hard to say what a true point guard should do. Stepp at JBS takes 80% of their shots, Whitaker at Hazard shots and dribbles a lot as well as delivers the ball to other people, Stamper scores a lot at Knott, but I think the key for a point guard is committing few turnovers. Maybe Breathitt can salvage the season and make a run with what they have and maybe they can't, but I do believe the region is starting to become anybody's at this point. Perry has won 3 big games in a row with the win against Knott tonight and they have only won 8 or 9 games. Who knows who will emerge at tournament time.
