Maybe it is because the larger schools are offering the kids to many choices in activities.

You guys are hitting the nail on the head about the bigger schools and their athletes not playing multiple sports. I'm familiar with Boyd Co., who back in the mid 80s had very fine programs in all of the major sports (I was there at that time). But some very large ego coaches (you know who they are) started discouraging their players from playing other sports. While basketball and baseball thrived because of this it made the football program terribly inconsistant. It's a real shame that parents have put up with this instead of insisting that their sons/daughters be allowed to play whatever they want, but the threat of losing their playing time was too much I guess.

 

It does appear now like the trend is reversing as I see more and more football players participating in basketball again (all over the region). I for one am glad to see this.

Sorry, this thread was about the class A schools originally. I agree that the class A schools are very strong this year and I'm glad to see it. The regional is going to be awesome this year with so many good teams. But they sure did get a tough draw, where barring an upset the 16th region representative will face Mason Co. That's about as tough a draw as you could have had in this state.
