Game was out of hand from the start. Officiating was terrible from both sides. I think it is a shame that 3 fairly veteran officials were not dispatched to this type of rivalry game. There was an incident last year and 14th Region should have taken that into consideration before assigning a fairly rookie crew. There is no hatred between Lee and Powell. Just a strong rivalry with 2 great young coaches that leave everything on the floor and those types of games can get away from young inexperienced officials. Shame on the assigning folks because both ejections could have been prevented if they had got to the scuffle. Both were reactions and not actions. COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED.

From what I have been told, I believe there were 2 veteran officials that were scheduled for this game, but due to injuries, they could not work it. Since there were 5 big district games that night it was hard to find anymore veteran officials to help in this one, because they were all working somewhere else already. Although the Breathitt game was cancelled that night, which should of opened up a couple of veterans that could of been used. Don't know why they didn't use them.:fire: Would of definitely saved some kids from being ejected and causing them to miss the next district game.

Powell's kids kind of went to sleep. They thought it was OT with 1.7 seconds remaining. He should have never got the ball in front court.

I agree Master and I know there were several games that night but my contention is that with the history and the fact that it is a seeded District, a little more emphasis could have been put on this game. It sertainly could shape the seeding of this District with both teams having district games this week without key kids.

He was knocked down on previous inbound attempt...no foul called (and not a lot of contact but still a marginal foul that would have put him on the ft line with no time remaining). Charles inbounded the ball, jumped inbounds and had it passed back to him. Shot up, Game over.

The 14th region has, to my knowledge, only ONE disrtict that seeds. That's the 56th. TOP!!!! priority should be given to the 56th on these games. It's the only district in the 14th where district games have an infuence on the post season. Send the most experienced and veteran officials to these games, because they are basically 'tournament' games.

Yes, which makes me wonder why do all of the other districts draw. The district games during the regular season need to play an impact on the post-season and having a draw doesnt let that happen. Make no since to me, all the districts need to be seeded.

Doesn't the 53rd seed? (JBS, Cordia, Knott, Letcher and Jenkins) Or maybe they have in the past, can't remember.

I agree that since those games in the 56th mean more, they should get top officials on those games. In our region there are only 9 or 10 what you would call veteran or top officials, two are out for a couple weeks due to injuries, so that makes the # of officials a lot less. And You have to look at what games were out there on that night.

Perry/Hazard, needed top guys to keep control even though not seeded

Owsley/Estill, seeded district game

Knott/Letcher, buzzer beater big district game

That took care of 9 top officials. 2 are injured, so

When you get down to #12-15 for the Lee/Powell game, going to be hard to get a quality crew, especially when you have to deal with coaches that don't want certain officials. And certain officials that don't want to go to certain places. So when you put all this together, this is what you end up with. Guys that get throwed in games that they aren't ready for and you have things happen that probably shouldn't, but there is nothing that can be done about it, because of the short number of officials in this region.

Yes they had a couple guys thrown out that may of been avoided or it may not have been, both teams had a chance to win the game, it was won on a 35 footer, can't ask for much better than that! I bet the guys that have to sit out will learn something from this though and bet it doesn't happen again with them. Better to happen now than later in the year when it could cost you a district or regional championship.
