Why is that number important though? I could take my waist size and subtract my shoe size and get a rather large number. But what importance would it have.

None really unless you tried to use it in High school then it would be -3 only. Say next year he gets stronger and heavier but not taller and could swing a heavier bat but not longer. You could use the minus number on the bat as a reference.

Does the -10, 29 inch, 19 oz sound good?

 

Also, hearing that composite is the best route. I recoiled on spending $250 on a bat and my wife pointed out what we spent on my daughter's driver.

 

Went to Dick's tonight to get my hands on one and see what they feel like. My son liked them. I liked the Easton Stealth bat. It seemed like a good one. IS composite or Alloy better?

Got the math right. Most of the time the more expensive bat is better. The Stealth composite barrel is awesome. My 18 year old son likes the alloy because of the feel and sound.

At a young age, bat speed is important but acceleration through contact, is also. Some prefer -8's or -10's, length to weigh difference.

 

I always preferred a slightly heavier bat for youths 10-12yrs old, then choke up 1" and learn to generate hand/bat speed. Barrel diameter, doesn't gain an advantage but can create recoil, when making contact and not allowing a player to drive thru, at the point of impact.

When spending $300

on a bat you would hope he could use it next year too. An extra inch in my opinion dosen't hurt, as he can choke up. Next year grip it and rip it.

what ever you do dont buy a 44 inch bat...being sarcastic! Had a guy come up to me asking me about baseball in the Maysville area.. And we got on the topic of bats, he kept insisting that his 4th or 5th grade son swung a 44 inch bat. I wanted to laugh but just couldn't while he was standing there.

Ended up finding a Easton Stealth model 29 oz, 19 inch.

2008 model was $229.

2007 model has every single feature that the 2008 model had listed and was $139.

Found it on Ebay for $94.
