Indoor Track

Featured Replies

Time to start thinking about indoor track. My understanding is that Mason County is in the process of creating an improved indoor facility at the old Jockey building that will be ready in a few weeks. I'm even hearing rumors that small colleges may even use it for a meet due to the lack of indoor facilities in Kentucky.

Although Mason County has used this facility for the last year or two, there were a few problems - most noticably, the slick running surface. I hear that this will be greatly improved when completed.

Anybody else know any more about this?

They are moving the long jump pit into the ground. They are going to put a rubber surface all around the track. I think the Kentucky High School Track people are going to have alot of meets there.

Striping will be started Sunday and completed on Monday. The track will have four 42" lanes on the oval. The oval will be 133.33 meters. 1.5 laps for 200 meters, 3 laps per 400, 6 laps per 800, 12 laps per 1600, little over 11 laps per 1500.

400 will be two turn stagger and break in after hitting the straightaway. 800, 1500, and 1600 will have waterfall start with and an extra alley arch starting line through lanes 3 & 4.

Long jump/triple jump boards(painted) at 3', 8', 20', 32'

55 straight will have eight lanes. Lanes will be numbered from outside in. Lane 1 being on the outer edge of the track. Lane 8 will be next to the long jump runway. Lane 4 will be the inside lane of the oval. 4x400 and 4x800 relays will have the exact same exchange zones.

Oval races will finish in to the finish chute stretch cross country style. The radius of the turn will be a little larger--37.8 feet for the inside lane which is about 6 feet more than last year running on polished concrete.

Glad to see this!

Very nice facility. I am sure it will get plenty of use this year and more in the future. We have very few options for good indoor track meets at the high school level. I am looking forward to the Jan 19th event.

I'm told that outside of UK, this is really the only indoor facility in the Commonwealth.

Barring scheduling conflicts, papa should be there for nearly if not all events this season.

Only 10 days now until the first meet of the season. I invite one and all to check out Mason County's indoor facility. What it lacks in seating for fans it more than makes up for in other aspects. Huge parking lot, top-notch track surface, all finishes electronically timed. Looks like my Saturday mornings/early afternoons will be taken for a while...
