These are all Seniors that I know of their plans Tyler Polley from Tates Creek HS have heard nothing about plans. Tyler Back Junior 1st Baseman from Dunbar and Michael Champa Junior Pitcher and Outfielder at Lexington Catholic.

There would not have been a game this South Lexington team was the best team of 12 years olds in this State maybe ever but with out a doubt in the last 10 years. Between these 2 teams there would have been a run rule South Lexington would have smashed them .Team lost 2 games in 4 years collecting Championship in every Tournament ever entered.

2004 Lafayette State Runner up Langfels started at 3rd base as freshman hit 5th. 2005 LCA State Championship Oliver started at 1st and hit third leading team in most offensive categories and State All Tournament team .2006 Lexington Catholic State Champions Taylor Hatfield 1st baseman and Michale Champa pitcher(no-hitter in 1st game of the State) then this years 2007 Dunbar State Champions had Thomas Royse 2nd in MR Baseball voting, Tyler Back all State Tournament team, Casey Lucchese All State Tournament team, and Chad Kruger State All Tournament team.

This team won in 2001 and is still winning today thanks to the Base that was South Lexington Baseball led by Donnie Warner with 30 years of coaching at the Cal Ripken level.

Can anyone tell my what happened to the Levinson player from this team

Sounds like the Lexington team was very good all around, but Aaron Alvey was unhitable as a 12 yo. No way no how would anyone have run ruled that team. Lexington may have one a 2 out of 3 series but Alvey would have been way too overwhelming at 12 yo and would have probably shut them out as he did everyone else.

Cal Ripken team beat teams with much tougher pitchers than Aaron Alvey, Oakland and New Orleans had monsters throwing upper 70's in Cal Ripken W/S unbelievable at that age. Saw Alvey as 13 yr old expecting him to throw hard and wasn't touching 70 mph from guns behind the plate. Alvey couldn't cut it at any level past 12 yrs old. South Lexington would have hit him without question. Little League gets more publicity but not necessarily better baseball.

No argument. Alvey probably does not through as hard now as he did when he was 12yo, but I have used a Jugs gun on more than 500 12 y/o all over the country and have never seen a 12 y/o throwing harder than he was during their World Series run. He was consistently at 78 mph and untouchable.

It was very questionable whether or not the South Lexington team actually were hitting against 12 year olds. The two pitchers they faced have never been seen at any level since that year. Remember this was the same year of Danny Almonte. The difference in this team they hit as a team against very good pitchers. The Louisville team really didn't have but one guy (Osborne) that could hit good pitching. You don't go from 78 mph as a 12 yr old to 67-68 as a 13 year old . I have traveled all over the country and have never seen this kind of decline with out serious injury. That only tells me 78mph Alvy threw was inflated. Trevor Gott of Southeastern was the hardest thrower I have ever seen he was gunned at 80+ mph at Cal Ripken W/S 3 years ago thus helping to change Ripken division when they went to 50 ft mounds.and 2 divisions.

I dont know why this is really even being discussed, because anyone that has been on both sides, would rank Cal Ripken Baseball in KY extremely higher than any Little League team. Little League baseball in KY has diminished and will soon be gone IMO. Eastern KY Little League is terrible compared to Cal Ripken and compared to USSSA, and from seen Cal Ripken is a very rising Affiliation.

Out of all fairness to Little League, it is still a great organization for a lot of kids, but no comparison to Cal Ripken.

Anyone that doesnt believe my opinion, then go to the State Little League Tournament and go to the State Cal Ripken Tournament, then make your own decision.

Cal Ripken and Little League Baseball are very comparable nationwide in my opinion. You get into much stiffer competition when you play in USSSA, AAU, etc. tournaments where there are no boundary regulations.

Cal Ripken All-Star Teams in KY is as strong as USSSA teams in KY....I know that for a fact.

I appreciate this opinion. This may very well be fact about baseball in Kentucky. My concern is that this person has seen very little USSSA in the region or nationally. Louisvile has no major USSSA teams at the 15U level or below. I do not think there are any older teams either. If a person goes and sees the top major teams play in the country, there is no comparison to Litlle League or Kyle Ripken. Baseball in the South and the West is taken to another level. The top major teams draw players from multiple states. If you have the opportunity, go the Elite World Series and see what those teams are doing. I wish that Little League or Kyle Ripken could offer what those teams do.

Those are some funny comments there.

Just to tell you what I know about USSSA is that our team played in 2 USSSA Tournaments as 7 yr olds in 2002, won both. As 8 yr olds we won the Ky State Tournament in 2003. Played in World Series in Georgia in 2003 as 8 yr olds and would have won with the current Roster. Played in 4 USSSA Tournaments in 2004 and won 2 of them. 3 of those Tournaments were out of State. Played in World Series in Tennesse and competed at high level. Played in 3 Tournaments in 2005, winning won finishing second in other two, all tournaments out of State. Played in 10 yr old World Series in Cincinnati and placed very high. Played in 4 USSSA tournaments this year, getting third place as the lowest and won one. Chose not to go to USSSA World Series this year, because we chose to sanction Cal Ripken. We just finished the Cal Ripken State Tournament 0-2. One game was a bad game on our part, but still played a great team from N KY, but we had NO chance against Southeastern Lexington. We played them tight defensively for a few innings, but had few hits. That being said I think I own the right to state that Cal Ripken is as strong in the State of KY as USSSA is. I seen teams from Middletown and Highview that were also as strong as most of the USSSA teams we faced all year.

Like I said before, you choose and make your decision, but in the States of KY, TN, WV and Ohio, I believe I have the experience and the right to say that Cal Ripken is by far as strong.:thumb:

Having watched youth baseball around the state for over the last 10 years the Cal Ripken teams are much stronger than AAU teams in this state. Kids we played with from South Lexington never had any trouble in the State or Region. As 13 Yr olds this group banded together with Southeastern Cal Ripken players and developed a select team that again didn't ever lose in the State completely demolishing the AAU 12U state champions out of Louisville the year before. Outside of Ky once you leave 12u age group select baseball is much better. AAU National teams are unbelievable won't agree with USAAA being as good though. Select teams are much different than you see in League play and really can't be compared. The South Lexington team was in World series team against Select teams from Savannah Ga., New Orleans, Oakland, New Jersey and Indiana and still won. Leagues offer conveience to families and for young age I believe to be the better option. When comparing select teams to the teams of Cal Ripken or Little League is like comparing apples to oranges. Obviously if you go to National events Select teams that draw from all surrounding states have the opportunity to be better.

Everyone has the right to their opinion, but I am humored by BCStorm. At least lexbaseball seems to have a level head when saying "Outside of Ky once you leave 12u age group select baseball is much better. AAU National teams are unbelievable .... Select teams are much different than you see in League play and really can't be compared." Lexbaseball continues " Obviously if you go to National events Select teams that draw from all surrounding states have the opportunity to be better." Most of the upper echelon Major teams, particularly for tournaments like the Elite World Series, draw from multilple states.

My concern is that when BCStorm says "Played in 10 yr old World Series in Cincinnati and placed very high" is that I am not for sure if he knows about the different levels of USSSA and the differences in the teams at the different levels. USSSA has A, AA, AAA, Major, and then an Elite World Series separate from the Major World Series. I have not know of any major world series held in Cincinnati. I have seen stickers on cars in Kentucky saying "USSSA World Series Champ" yet was it A or AA? Yet USSSA has a major level and World Series, and then the Elite World Series which is even a level higher. These tournaments, particularly at the older age levels, are nothing like anything held in Cincinnati by USSSA. Just look this year when the Cincinnati Flames and the Schaumburg Semiloes went to the Ballte of the South at the 14U level. The Shaumburg Seminoles had dominated tournaments in the Midwest. But the Seminoles went 2-2 in their pool and did not even make the tournament. The Cincinnati Flames went 2-2 in pool play with one of those wins by forfeit.

One more comment. When BCStorm says "I seen teams from Middletown and Highview that were also as strong as most of the USSSA teams we faced all year" makes me doubt he knows what he is talking about. Louisville has NO MAJOR TEAMS THAT REGULARLY COMPETE AGAINST TOP MAJOR TEAMS IN THE COUNTRY. The 14U Kentucky Baseball Club is the closest team that I know of, but they lost in the Kentucky AAU tournament. They also did not even make the tournament in the Battle of the South. They are not playing in the Elite World Series because they didn't qualify.

I believe this forum started by comparing 2 Ky teams then moved to comparing type of affiliation in KY...Not sure where you started wanting to talk about teams out West or the ones playing at Disney World. I dont believe anyone here ever compared a Little League or Cal Ripken teams to those. Not sure what your jab is to diminish the talent of "A" teams or "AA" Teams. I have no problem of those so called window stickers. Those kids competed at their level and won, dont try to belittle that.

Once again, I stated my comparisons to the states I listed and never once compared Southeastern Lexington to the Houston Bambinos that travel on a Coach bus, so you stay on your high horse, but I will still support my level of play.:thumb:

I simply replied to the threads as they progressed in the discussion of USSSA, Little League, and Kyle Ripken. No, I am not trying to stay on "my high horse," but I feel that there's a big baseball world out there and sometimes that is forgotten. BC Storm stated in a recent response to something I posted that "Those are some funny comments there." That was taking a jab at at the comments that I made. BCStorm then proceed to go on about "our team" and mentioning "World Series" in the same discussion that started with "World Series" internationally with Little League Baseball and Kyle Ripken. I wanted to make sure that when "World Series" and USSSA are mentioned that is was based on facts and understanding. Sometimes people in Kentucky fail to see a much bigger world. Kentucky can feel proud of what it has accomlished, but it is not at center of the baseball world. I am not trying to be disrespectful of any of the players playing USSSA at the "A" or "AA" level. I am not trying "to take jabs" but to try to discuss the facts. I am not trying to "belittle" what any team from Kentucky has done. I believe teams and players should feel proud of their accomplishments and efforts at their particular level, but I sometimes feel that the people with "USSSA World Series Champions window stickers" that competed at the "A" or "AA" level do not give respect to the other levels by even including the level at which they competed. I felt the discussion of Little League, Kyle Ripken, and USSSA was not based on accurate information and understanding. Thats all.
