Clark County senior Tristan Jones won the 3A shot put title at the state high school track and field meet yesterday with an effort of 50 feet 2 3/4 inches.

"I've been shooting for 50 all year. I got it once (before), but I had to pull this one out of my butt," the 6-foot-3, 240-pounder said. "My right hip came through very good, so it was a pretty good throw."

Jones wore a wrap on his left (non-throwing) hand, having had two surgeries as a result of a football injury. He will play tight end for Western Kentucky in the fall.

Great picture of Tristian and link to results of State Meet.

It looked like more than just a wrap when I saw the replay on the news. Looked like a big, heavy and awkward cast that makes his achievement that much more impressive.

What some may not relaize is that he had a bone graph to his wrist about a month ago. They took bone from his hip. To be able to compete and win after major surgery, in such a short time ago, to me is also impressive.

Shows you what kind of fighting spirit he has. I've really enjoyed watching him the past few years in both football and basketball.

He is also a great singer...All State in chorus. Also top notch in the classroom. Great kid.:thumb:

Congratulations to a fine young man; and continued success in the future.

Great job, Tristian!
