Corbin ends North Laurel Middle softball unbeaten streak

Featured Replies

Corbin Middle School's varsity team ended the North Laurel Middle varsity's 2 season unbeaten streak on Thursday night 4-2 at North. Brock picked up the win for the Lady Hounds going 6 innings recording 2 strikeouts, walking 2 batters and allowing only 4 hits. Baldwin took her first loss for North going 6 innings, recording 8 strikeouts, walking 2 batters and allowing 4 hits as well. North had not lost a varsity middle school game since 2005.

The difference I saw in the game was that Corbin's intensity was much higher than North's and the Lady Jags hit the ball, but always right to a Corbin defender. The Lady Hounds made the plays they had to make, especially the shortstop and 2nd basemen who recorded 8 outs and helped their squad earn a very solid win for their program.

North's JV squad won 11-1 in 4 innings to improve to 10-0. Strong picked up the win going 4 innings, picking up 3 strikeouts, only walking 1 batter, and allowing only 3 hits. Howard took the loss but didn't go the entire game for the Lady Hounds. North scored 2 in the first, 1 in the second, 5 in the 3rd, and 3 in the 4th to end the game via mercy rule.

good win for a very good Corbin MS team.

You mean the A & B teams instead of varsity and JV don't you?

Same thing at NLMS. The middle school has what they call Varsity & JV. They just don't call it A & B. JV is the younger girls, Varsity is the older girls. However, with only 3 eighth graders (4 are at the high school) and only 2 playing that night NL was fairly young in both games.

This coming Thursday should be interesting as NLMS travels to Corbin for the rematch. I can't imagine that those young lady Jags liked having their winning streak snapped like that, ... and at home!

Corbin has come a long way. I remember when Gary and Janie Akins were begging Corbin rec to let them put a girls liitle league togeather.

The Akins' are nice people who really are trying to help the girls. I am glad to see them at North this year! I hate that Corbin cancelled the 2nd double header with North. A friend in Corbin told me it would happen before it did. He was right! I know that Coach Brock wanted to play, but it wasn't to be.
