Neither team showed their strength. Ryle threw Weis, who was a reliever last year and working for the fourth starter spot, followed by two kids making their first varsity appearances, Lovan and Reider. Cov Cath threw Reis then Nutini then 47, don't know who he was. Cov Cath was down 4-0, 7-4 & 11-7 but kept batteling back. No long balls by either club but Brent Humphery tripled, Murray and Oliver chipped in with a couple doubles and Braylen Chandler had a clutch pinch hit double. Ryle looked rusty to me in the field, at the plate and on the hill but it was just their second game. They will get much better this year.

CovCath third pitcher was Dan Koester who has been injured for the last couple of years. DD was correct, while it was exciting game, both teams made not only some costly errors, but had some brain freezes in the game. The game came down to the bottom of the seventh with runners on second and third with Pop up and with two outs. Pop a right hander hit a low line shot that the first baseman caught at his shoestrings to end the game and preserve the victory for the Raiders, one foot closer to the foul line and it's CovCath who comes away with a 12/11 victory.

 

The one thing that while I will admit it was Ryle's only second game of the year, it proved that the very young Colonels who will get better and better with each outing, can indeed play with Ryle. It should be a exciting year for NKy high school baseball...

 

Next game for CovCath is today at 3pm at Tate's Creek against East Ridge who lost Monday to Boyle County 13-1.

Nice win for Ryle. Don't think this will be the same kind of game later in the season though when both have their studs on the mound.
