Where's the money come from to take a whole baseball team to Fla. for a week? Fundraiser's are one way, maybe booster's program, but how do you do this in a short period of time. Tryout's begin Feb. 15 and that doesn't leave a lot of time to decide who makes the team and when you would be leaving for your trip.(approx April) And what happen's when Little Jimmy and his Daddy who by the way raised the most money for the fundraiser doesn't make the team? How do these team's come up with the money to be able to take these trip's. How do school's that have tryouts go on trip's ?

My daughters softball team has gone to Fla. for the past few years . They have a booth at the Bengals games they work . Work is performed by the returning players parents . Most of these kids are sure to make the team ,I have never seen one cut .The money gose to play for lodging and food for the girls . The parents find their own way .

The new girls are encouraged to sell as many banners as they can to hang on the fence at games . The returning players do this also but the new ones more so .The money from Bengals games pays for alot of the season .

I stress that the money raised is for the team and not specific players. I tell the parents that just because they work hard doesn't mean their kid is guaranteed a spot on the team or on the trip. If they expect that then they have their priorities in the wrong place because the team is what matters.

Usually your first deposit to go on one of these trips is due by mid to late October.

Just another reason why the KHSAA should allow for a week of fall baseball practice / tryouts (football has spring practice). If you could make cuts in September, then you would know who needed to do the fundraising.

Fall Ball has been brought up but shot down by the principals and ADs in the state. Technically the KHSAA is not to blame for that.

Some Schools sell Posters and Schedules. I know of a team in Northern KY That goes around and get sponsers and puts all there names on a big schedule of the games and big pictures of the seniors and then a picture of the whole team at the bottom.

What kind of money are you talking about to send a player to Fla for a week? Its got to be in the $1500 range isn't it.

Don't know about this year, but Middlesboro baseball goes to Fla every year for around $400 / player. It's north Florida (Jacksonville / St. Augustine area), so the trip isn't as far as you think. They ride in a yellow school bus and don't eat at fancy restaurants, but they always got a room, 3 meals / day and a trip to Disney World at the end of the week for the $400.

They schedule 5 games against top-notch competition, all within a half-hour's drive. They have team practice every day plus the coaches get 1-on-1 coaching in, too. And the team-building experience is priceless.

The Reds and Bengals will allow teams and companies to work concession booths for a cut of the profits. I believe KY Speedway does too.
