The 1-6 Cooper Jaguars host the 8-0 Highlands Bluebirds this Thursday at 6:00p.

Kickoff: 6:00p, Thursday 10/22/26 @ Cooper HS

Team Outlooks:

  • Cooper Jaguars (1-6): Cooper has another tough matchup this week facing the undefeated Bluebirds.  Cooper’s lone win against Covington Catholic may be the bright spot for their season, but beating the Birds would be equally sweet.

  • Highlands Bluebirds (8-0): Win or lose, Highlands is in the Championship Game next week against the Beechwood Tigers, so even if they want that perfect season, the ultimate goal this week is to stay healthy.  Expect the starters to get no more than a half of action to get some work in, but not much more.  The entire Birds’ bench should get significant playing time in this one.

Common Opponents:
Covington Catholic: Birds
won 42-0, Jags won 8-7
Dixie Heights: Birds won 48-8, Jags lost 46-7
Ryle: Birds won 34-19, Jags lost 28-0
Beechwood: Birds won 27-0, Jags lost 35-0
Campbell County: Birds won 41-6, Jags lost 20-12
Conner: Birds won 36-14, Jags lost 32-0

I mean how ugly could this game get? Are we allowed to suit up like our FTJFL all-stars from 7th/8th grade and have them play this game?

I pray for everyone to stay healthy in this match, that should be the #1 priority in a game like this....

I know some games get reduced from 10 min quarters to 8 min quarters. This may be a game to do that. Additionally, a number of freshman played Friday night against Mason County and Saturday morning against Beechwood's JV so those specific players will be limited on quarters. That will force HHS to clear the bench. With that said, the HHS back-ups are no joke, either. Like you said, as long as both teams come out healthy, I'll be happy.

A number of Birds out tonight. Austin Hamblen will be starting at QB.

Cooper to receive.

Calvin Niemann starting at RB for Noah Brown. Griffin Jacobs starting at WR for Gus Bouldin.

Hamblen TD pass to TJ McSorley. McSorley kick good.

Birds 7 Jags 0

Interception by Brady McDowell. Birds ball on the Cooper side of the field.

Short TD run by RB Niemann. McSorley kick good.

Birds 14 Jags 0

Fumble by Cooper on a hit by Oliver Morris. Austin Younger with the recovery. Birds ball in Cooper territory.

TD Niemann. McSorley kick good.

Birds 21 Jags 0

3:31 left in the half.
