A cold front will move through the Ohio Valley today, bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms to Kentucky during the afternoon and evening. While most storms will remain below severe limits, a few could become strong as they move across the state.

Cloud cover and only modest humidity will limit how unstable the atmosphere becomes, but strong winds aloft will still help storms organize. Because of this, the strongest storms may produce wind gusts of up to 60 mph and small hail.

The better chance for more significant severe weather will stay north of Kentucky, mainly across Ohio, keeping the tornado threat across the Commonwealth very low.

The primary concerns for Kentucky will be isolated damaging wind gusts, small hail, frequent lightning, and brief heavy downpours. Not everyone will see a storm, and many areas may stay dry.

Overall, expect a typical summer day with scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms, with only a low risk that a few could briefly become severe before weakening later tonight.
