The Russell Lady Red Devils (25-7) will take on the Ashland Kittens (25-5) for the 16th regional championship. This is the 2nd straight season these two programs have met with a trip to Rupp to the winner. Ashland defeated Russell last season by 30 at 72-42. This game will be I feel a much better game. They have met two times this year with both games going to Ashland by 20 and 15. The games tips at 7:00pm and can be seen on MyTown TV and the Total Media Sports Network.

Russell playing very well and led Ashland by 10 at the half at 26-16. Ashland started the game off with a 6-0 run but since then Russell has outscored the Kittens 26-10.

Russell leads Ashland by 6 at 45-39 midway through the 4th quarter this would be an upset in the 16th.

Ashland has cut the Russell led to just 2 at 45-43. The Kittens are on a 10-0 after trailing by 12 at the start of the 4th quarter.

Ashland now leads Russell 48-47 with 2:18 to play.

Ashland leads 50-47 with just under 2 to play. They are currently on a 17-2 run.

Ashland wins it 3rd regional title in the last 4 years. They improve to 26-5 and will take on the winner of the 8th region. The Lady Devils season ends with a record of 25-8.

Russell's Kennedy Darnell from the runner-up Russell Lady Devils was named the tournament's MVP.

Russell played well and the things that needed to happen happened to pull off the upset. I haven’t seen any game stats but Ashland’s overall shooting percentage had to be one of their poorest performances to date, especially through the third quarter. The high zone played by Russell was effective and the Kittens did little to expose the inherent weaknesses of extending the zone that high. Both teams have a bright future and moral victories mean little the morning after but the Russell girls truly left it all on the floor and should be proud. Best of luck to the Kittens moving forward.
