7th Region: Week 8

? Headlines ?

X | The Tigers balanced a loss to North Oldham with a second, more decisive win over #2 Male to consolidate their take-back of the region's top ranking.

The X-Men played well in defeat to North Oldham, but were slightly outgunned by North’s 64% from the field and twelve threes. The loss was just the third in X’s last 43 games against in-state competition

The Tigers bounced back in impressive fashion, roaring past Male with a furious fourth quarter that saw X put up 29 points to blow open what had been a tie game earlier in the final frame. Josh Lindsay scored a career best 33 and once again led St. Xavier’s assault on the rim.

H | Male has been knocked around of late, dropping three of its last four. The fifteen point loss to St. X was the Bulldogs’ second double digit loss of last week. Butler, who's had Male's number in recent years, topped the Dawgs by twelve a few days earlier.
Male was dealt a potentially debilitating blow with the news of Trey Hillerich’s season ending knee injury. The versatile 6’10” sophomore was averaging 10 points and 7 rebounds per game with a triple-double under his belt earlier this season. The timing of Hillerich’s injury and the recent losses have Male's stock trending downward.

? ? | One of the region's biggest games last week turned into a rout and a glorified perimeter shooting exhibition by Ballard. It was bombs away for the Bears as they poured in 19 threes to blow out Eastern by thirty. Cole Edelen was vintage, knocking down seventeen of those three point attempts for a season high 25 points. It was a disappointing result for Eastern, who a week earlier was coming off a win over Top 20 Butler. The Eagles have now decisively lost back-to-back games to Jeffersontown and Ballard.

☘️ | It was an up and down week for Trinity. Garrison Gilvin's 22 points & 12 rebounds powered the Rocks past Seneca in one of their best wins of the season. That was bedore CovCath snuffed out any momentum T was hoping to build by smoking Trinity three nights later for their most lopsided loss of the season. Gilvin continued to shine in defeat with another 22 point outing against the top team in NKY.

?? | Prior to last week, Waggener hadn't put consecutive wins together yet this season. The Wildcats have now won four straight following a 3-0 week that included ending Valley's five game run in the win column. Waggener got it done last week on the defensive end, allowing 42 ppg across their three wins.

I saw Jayden Johnson listed on Trinity's roster on KHSAA so I'm assuming he's eligible now.

I was told he's been on the roster so maybe not approved yet.
