Cold Temperatures to return

Featured Replies

Dec 29, 2025 – Jan 2, 2026

Colder than normal temperatures are expected across all of Kentucky as a winter pattern remains in place over the eastern United States. The coldest and most persistent conditions are favored across eastern Kentucky, with several days of below-average highs and lows likely statewide.

Overall precipitation is expected to be below normal; however, any precipitation that does occur could fall as snow, particularly in eastern Kentucky. At this time, there is no strong signal for a major winter storm, though light snow and brief travel impacts remain possible.

Forecast confidence is above average, with good agreement among forecast models on the colder pattern

Record warm temperatures in the low to mid 70s are expected Sunday. A strong cold front will move through Sunday night, resulting in a rapid and significant temperature drop. Highs on Monday will be in the 30s, with wind chills in the teens. Temperatures will fall into the teens by Tuesday morning, with wind chills dropping into the single digits. The abrupt change from record warmth to dangerous cold may catch some off guard. Use caution and take appropriate cold weather precautions.
