Notes:

-Clinton County had quite the response to a rough week, immediately reestablishing themselves as the team to beat at the top of their district with a pair of wins, including knocking off Russell County on the road by a 76-60 score.  I'd love to give you some stats for the Bulldogs in those games, but alas, they have failed to post any of their last four games.

-The 16th District team that beat them also moves up the ranks this week, as Monroe County continues to impress outside of the strange loss to Cumberland County.  They move to 6-1, along with knocking off Metcalfe County to move to 2-1 in district play after a 59-48 win.  It's their best start to this point in the season since the 2014/15 season, arguably the best season in the school's history. Brison Nuckols has been leading the way with 15.4 PPG through the team's first five.

-With Warren Central's loss to St. X by a 62-54 score at the King of the Bluegrass, there are no unbeatens left in the region. Monroe County currently sports the best win percentage of .875 at 7-1, with Clinton County leading the region with 8 wins.

-The Allen County-Scottsville/Barren County game was the game of the week for the region, but was a real missed opportunity for the Patriots.  Leading going into the fourth, the Patriots held a lead mid-quarter, but went 1/4 on free throws, allowing the Trojans to tie the game on a three at 49 all.  The two teams traded the lead several times, before Barren County turned it over down 54-53 with 27 seconds left.  They were fouled with 23 seconds left, but again, could only make 1 of 2.  That proved fatal, as it allowed sophomore Weston Shelton to hit his second of two threes on the night with five seconds left for what proved to be the game-winner.  The Patriots could not get off a game-winning attempt of their own, and fell to the Trojans for the fifth straight time, and 12th in the last 13 matchups.  It is not all doom and gloom, as it is the clearest sign yet that the Patriots can compete.

-Metcalfe County got their first win in dramatic fashion.  The team's leader is Maddux Garrett, who entered the night averaging 15.1 PPG.  The Hornets took possession with 56 seconds left following two Green County free throws to tie the game at 82 all in overtime. After some full court pressure applied, Green County stopped when the ball got into the front court, allowing Garrett to by and large bleed the clock (they did offer some token pressure at times but it was light.  With 9 seconds Garrett made his move, driving the the block and putting in a jumper for the 84-82 lead with 4.8 seconds left.  Green County called timeout to set up a game-tying or game-winning attempt.  After failing to inbound the ball and calling their last timeout, they tried again getting it in on a curl (and it must be said, starting the clock early as a full second came off the clock before the ball hit the hands of the receiving player).  They got all the way inside the three point line but in haste lost the handle on the ball, never getting off a shot.

-There's an incredibly light slate of games next week due to the placement of Christmas, so there may be very little (if any) movement a week from now.

Great work as always DF!

I think Barren County and Russell County are a shad high and Greenwood is a shad low, but rankings are a thankless business and it's the holidays, so Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!
