Running clock indeed. How can Lloyd get something productive out of this one? In Lloyd's last game against Henry County I said their defense should hold Henry to under 125 rushing yards and

  • Not tonight, but I’m with her husband. First play of the game 62 yard touchdown. 7-0 Lloyd

  • I am sure he is happy to have some safe time.

Just from looking at the stat line for this one...

Lloyd was impressive with what seems like little effort.

I had to ask someone how Carroll had almost the same amount of rushing yards as Lloyd considering how strong Lloyd's run defense is and with Carroll being a passing team. Carroll had 127 rushing to Lloyd's 129. I was told that towards the very end of the game Carroll busted about a 50 yard run for their only TD on Lloyd's JV and that made it make sense. Carroll's 37 passing yards makes sense too since their QB1 was out. Evans 7-10 for 160+ and 4 TD's, Evans like.

Lloyd had 15 kids touch the ball on offense. That's alot. Talk about spreading the ball around. If Lloyd is that deep on offense that is crazy. What might be even crazier, is to think about who hasn't shown up in the offensive stat sheet. A couple underclassmen that are some of their best skill players that can't even scratch the field on offense this season. That deep? Phew. Wild.

How would you grade this one for the Juggs @DRKARK?

Without being able to see it, would I be off with a B- ? Leaves room to get better. Which would be in their best interest with some big games in the upcoming weeks.

I heard Lloyd kicked it deep. Carroll couldn't get a return past the 20 and may have only crossed the 40 once. Pretty dominant night all around for the Juggs, as expected. They got to be itching for some real competion seeing as they haven't had any since Bourbon took them to the wire.

Can't wait to see them in round 2. Maybe a rematch of the Russell game from last year? I know they would love to have that one back. Hope their prepared.

For me, it’s really kind of hard to try to grade this one. The Juggs really started substituting early and often in this game. Yes, the majority of their yardage did come after the running clock. It looks like we’re gonna have East Carter in the second round. It was two years ago I believe when they knocked us out of the playoffs at home. They still have that running back that was playing then and is still a bruiser and one of the best backs in the state. I know we have faced some good teams with good runners, but I think this one will be a true test. Let’s take care of Boone County first.

East Carter has a really good RB in Yoak but their defense leaves a lot to be desired. EC can 100% beat Lloyd, but I think more has to go right for them to beat Lloyd than the other way around.

It will be a good game but I definitely lean toward the Juggs. Seems like Lloyd has a swagger to them this year.

Lloyd is close to elite at stopping the run. If that's EC's bread and butter even with a back like Yoak.....I would take the Juggs. What scares me for Lloyd's defense is a team that can throw it vertically.

East relies very heavy on their run game. Yoak is a bellcow back and then they work Beason in. They are plenty capable throwing the ball and do some RPO stuff, but almost everything in their passing game is predicated on Yoak keeping the chains moving and having to commit Safeties because he is so dangerous at breaking tackles.

I will say Yoak is a different back than what you have seen. He is an absolute load and is very patient as well. I still think Lloyd gets enough stops though and I am not sure East is capable of holding Lloyd under 28 points.

I could not agree more! I believe Lloyd has the capability of stopping any back in the state. But you take a team like Bourbon County who has a well-balanced run/passing team when they saw they could not run the ball against the Juggs they started throwing the ball with success and really exploited some of secondary weaknesses. Hopefully those days are behind us because you can’t have those weaknesses later in the playoff rounds.

What Lloyd does on defense in the box.. to say the least....is scary. And I don't necessarily mean by like scaring an offense but they commit almost 9  to the box alot of the time and say burn us deep if you can. A decent amount of times the MLB might be the deepest person in between the hashes and he can move. That's why teams that can throw it deep scare me for Lloyd. They do drop 2 safeties back but it definitely looks like they prefer not to most of the time.

No doubt Yoaks is a monster I do my homework. If EC can hit 4-5 pass plays it would be a very interesting game.

@ATLCat I actually think it takes a lot of gonads for their DC to call it the way he does sometimes. I watch their film and I kind of giggle at times in disbelief..like really???No safety?? But they are very close to being able to pull it off with the athletes they have. They are a tweak away from being able to pull it off without it costing them dearly down the road.

I am starting to like Lloyd more and more in the East to get to the Semi-Finals. Now here is what I will say though in terms of Round 3 matchups... if Bell gets enough of a RPI boost to move ahead of Lloyd this does set up something interesting.

Lawrence County is an intriguing matchup for Lloyd's defense. I think Lloyd will score points on them, but Lawrence County is a tricky team to defend. Fetherolf is extremely accurate at passing and then Bulldogs have some big play ability at WR (specifically the Johnson kid). I actually think the best case scenario for Lloyd is pulling for Rockcastle County to upset the Bulldogs. I think Lloyd matches up extremely well with Rockcastle who desperately needs their running game to open up the pass.

Am I saying Lawrence County will beat Lloyd? Not at all. I am not convinced Lawrence County can stop any quality offense. Just Lawrence has sneaky efficiency and balance on offense and truth be told may be better served throwing the ball more that game.

I love it though! I like the swagger they have.

It is a double edged sword because it would make me worried that if you catch the wrong team on the wrong night you could lose to someone less talented... but this also may be the key to a truly memorable run.

I kind of subscribe to the theory of being more aggressive at the lower level of HS football so I am on board with that kind of stuff. Dictate the pace and disrupt.

Definitely a double edge sword like you speak of and yes its harder to get away with as the competition gets steeper. There should be a lot of good games in 3A in the later rounds. Got to get one win at a time and anything can happen. I think Lloyd has had the football Gods help them out in being in the East compared to the West for sure.

I may be self conceited and full of it. Call me what you want I can take it.  But....if I were calling Lloyd's secondary, which I am not qualified to do,  Lloyd would have won that game 30-7. No doubt in my mind. I did call exactly what Bourbon should do to win but they waited 36 minutes to to do it.

Bourbon possibly waited that long by strategy. Thinking if they could make it a game going into the 4th then they would have a chance and Lloyd wouldn't adjust. Lloyd adjusted with about 6 minutes left in the 4th and scraped by.
