Team Collier 151 Team Clark 131 (WNBA All Star Game)

Featured Replies

Napheesa Collier led her team and all scorers with 36.  Team Clark was led by Kelsey Mitchell's 20.

This was more like an NBA All-Star game than last seasons.  They had live substitutions (a la hockey line change) and 4 sports on the court that were 4 point shots.  There were A LOT of those chucked up tonight.

I understand and applaud the unity of all of the players wearing these shirts, but what are they owed???

League loses money, what are they expecting to get paid?

Clark didn't play, correct?

She did not.  She re-injured a groin muscle a couple games ago and will likely be out more games once the season picks back up in a few days.

"Let's clear up one thing to start: the WNBA players are not lobbying for the same salaries as their NBA counterparts.

Instead, they are lobbying for a fairer percentage of the league's shared revenue. WNBA vet and Los Angeles Sparks star Kelsey Plum said it best back in 2022: "We’re not asking to get paid what the men get paid,” she said. “We’re asking to get paid the same percentage of revenue shared."

"Now yes, the WNBA did lose 40 million dollars in 2024, but this is in large part due to the TV deal they are currently signed to, which in 2026 goes from roughly 45 Million annually to 200 Million annually."

Ultimately, as the article hints at, this is all about TV money.  NFL owners are making a massive profit before they sell one ticket or a single consession.  The NBA is pumping money into the W because they have it to do because of massive TV contracts.  They have the money to spend to try and attract new groups of fans to the sport.  And if that means it's 20 million little girls that are now watching the game, it benefits them.

Why do some baseball markets struggle?  No league wide TV deal.

When the new TV deal sets in for the WNBA, they go from 40 million in the red to about 120 million in the black, without doing anything.

TV Money makes the sports world go round.
