14th Region: Week 8

Featured Replies

Weather is clearing and that means teams were able to get some games in this past week. Hopefully the weather holds off so we can get the season in without anymore cancellations or reschedules before the post season. We're about a month, maybe a little less from post season play, so with that being said, let's see what happened this past week and see where each team ranks this week.

Hazard picked up two huge wins this past weekend in the All "A" State Tournament in at Brescia University and the Owensboro Sports center.  The thrilling wins came over top rated teams such as Green County 54-53 and Clinton County 67-65. This was Green County's second loss on the season (Frederick Douglass 74-51 at the Lexington Catholic Holiday Tournament) and Clinton County's first loss on the season. Evin Eversole led the Bulldogs in scoring in both games, 22 against Green County and 32 against Clinton County. Hazard couldn't get anything going on Saturday night as they would fall by 15 to Danville Christian 44-29.

Breathitt County dropped they're only game of the week, falling to the Harlan County Black Bears 78-59 at the Coliseum on the campus of Breathitt County High School. This was a great game until Harlan County ran away with it late which included several 3 pointers.

Perry County Central picked up two solid wins, both in which were complete blowouts and both were on the road at that. Perry County Central cruised past the Wolfe County Wolves in the Wolves Den by 35, 78-43. The Commodores commanded they're way to another victory two days later, defeating district foe, Leslie County at the Nixon Center in Leslie County, 69-46. The Commodores have now won 5 of they're last 6.

Knott County Central went 2-1 this past week, falling to Betsy Layne 70-58 but the Patriots would bounce back, defeating district foe, Jenkins 52-43 and getting a revenge win over Powell County after an earlier season defeat, defeating the Pirates 61-52 on the Pirates own home court.

Powell County picked up two wins this past week, defeating Buckhorn 88-75 and district foe, Owsley County 62-52 at the Palace. The Pirates couldn't make it 2-0 against Knott County Central as the Patriots defeated the Pirates 61-52.

Leslie County dropped a district game to Perry County Central 69-46 but would bounce back and pick up a big road win over Estill County, defeating the Engineers 64-57.
