Was this at Jackson Co?

Jackson County has a good team. The big kid is a load and they gave Corbin all they wanted until Smith and Johnson went on their shooting barrage.

I think it was at Jackson, not sure though.

I listened to some of this game on the radio and Whitley hung around in this one right up to the start of the fourth...Another good effort by Whitley....

Jackson is a tough place to travel to let alone play. Whitley is much better at home. It may be their youth. I understand that they may be making some changes with their middle school coaches. they have always had a great grade school program. With Deaton captaining their ship it is only a matter of time. They also have some parents who are pushing AAU basketball. The more you play the better you are. Their grade school championship nearly fills their gym. As Lonnie Anderson said it is the greatest show on earth. Kudos to their improving program.

What kind of changes are taking place in the middle ranks? They seem to have some young blood in the controls this year and a few promising players quit on them during the season as well.

The majority of their changes have been made with the young blood. These young coaches appear to be more interested in getting the kids in the gym and traveling with them to play AAU. It is very hard to be competitive if your kids don't play an extended AAU season. The Freshmen on this team may have played more games than the Seniors. I believe that they won an age group state championship a couple of years ago. These changes will be more in approach than personel. That group of kids have a good bunch of parents as does this bunch behind them. The coaches from Poplar Creek played in a tournament last weekend and are adding a few kids from some of the other schools and are headed to Northern Kentucky this weekend.

One thing that surprised me about their grade school games is that they sometimes play the same night that the high school team plays. Maybe it's not that big a deal most places, but it would not happen at Corbin. It seems that all the different players from the different schools have a hard time meshing once they all get to the same school, but I have heard that's a problem at a lot of schools.
