10th Region: Week 1

Featured Replies

The first week of basketball in the 10th region was an exhilarating experience. Teams engaged in 44 matchups, with a balanced outcome of 22 wins and 22 losses. The competition was fierce, showcasing the talent and determination of the players.

Among the highlights, GRC emerged as a dominant force, winning all three of their games with an impressive average victory margin of 21 points. Campbell County also made waves, finishing 2-1 and discovering a freshman star who scored 26 points in his debut. Meanwhile, Augusta and St. Pat each played four games, with Augusta securing three wins while St. Pat is still in search of their first victory. Calvary kicked off their season with a district game against Campbell County, and teams Montgomery County and Harrison County are navigating their own challenges.

Looking ahead, the upcoming week promises to be thrilling both on and off the court. Montgomery County is expected to receive news about Cayden Reed's eligibility, which could significantly impact their season. Additionally, Augusta will face off against their cross-county rival Bracken County, a matchup that always draws attention. The US Bank Murph Classic is set to take place in Mason County this weekend, and on Tuesday, Robertson County and St. Pat will clash in a bid for a much-needed win for both struggling teams.

Look for a post below with my special edition 10th region mascot rankings.

On Thursday, December 12th, it will be two years since the legendary Mike Leach left us. He was known for his unique takes on sports, especially his famous analysis of which Pac-12 mascot would come out on top in a fight, I figured it would be fitting to pay tribute to him by doing a similar breakdown with the mascots from the 10th region.

To keep things fair and unbiased, I decided to let AI do the heavy lifting. I fed all the mascots into the system, referenced Leach's iconic press conference, and asked the AI to analyze the matchups for me.

If you haven't seen the press conference referenced above you can here.

Here are the findings from that analysis:

The eagle (Scott) will eat the cardinal (GRC) and quickly leave the area. While the eagle is a strong bird, it won't stay to confront a camel, polar bear, or panther.

The saint (St. Pat) isn't a fighter, so he's going to bounce quickly too, but not before he does his part to take out the devil (Robertson Co.).

The royal (Mason Co.) doesn't get to equate into this analysis because they are going to try to send someone else to do their dirty work... they would never chance a fight themselves.

The Colonel (Bourbon Co.) and the Indian (Montgomery Co.) are going to duke it out, but the Indian is going to prevail via their guerrilla tactics. While making their way through the woods, the Indian is going to be stung several times by the jackets (Nicholas Co.) and ultimately be out of the fight due to this.

Cats can't avoid a cat fight so the cougar (Cavlary), panther (Augusta) and wildcat (Pendleton Co.) will square up in a ball of fur. The wildcat, being the smallest, will lose quickly. The cougar is the apex predator and will prevail here.

This land isn't big enough for 2 horses, so the mustang (Brossart) and the Thoroughbred (Harrison Co.) will go at it. The survival instincts and swiftness of the mustang gives them the edge.

This leaves the camel (Campbell Co.) and polar bear (Bracken Co.) to fight it out in the first round. The polar bear is one of the most dangerous beasts on earth and will take out the camel quickly.

So the only mascots left standing are the mustang, the cougar, the polar bear and the jackets. The cougar is going to eat the mustang pretty quickly and we're going to say that the polar bear has home-field advantage (winter time/basketball season) so the jackets are going dormant in the cold weather.

With its sheer size and coming off of a bye last round due to the weather, the polar bear will overtake the cougar and ultimately stand as the toughest mascot in the 10th region.

Thank you reading my ramblings... I hope you enjoyed it lol.
