By the final weekend of the month, a third hurricane might be strengthening and making landfall in Florida. According to the GFS, a system is emerging in the general vicinity of Hurricane Helene and moving across Cuba into the Florida Straits. gaining strength before reaching South Florida. Though there is no guarantee this will happen, it is worth keeping an eye on.

All the hurricane activity we have been seeing could be explained by the fact that it looks like we are in or about to enter a La Niña. Less shear occurs in the Gulf during a La Niña, which would be bad for storm development. The water is also warmer than usual. Nevertheless, another system that might develop into a hurricane is depicted by the GEFS ensemble. The different directions this system could go are also displayed. Next weekend, Florida might find itself under attack once more.
