Estill repeats as 56th district champions.

Both teams would go scoreless until the 5th.

Powell would plate one to make it 3-2 on an RBI double.

Estill would then plate 5 in the 7th (two were a walk and a HBP). Rose brought in two on a two-run single. Infield single brought in another run.

Dicken started for Powell and went 6 innings. 8 H, 5 R (All ER), 0 BB and 9 K's

Nickell came in for Powell in the 7th and throws 6 straight balls and then Begley comes in and gets Powell out of a jam (Not before back to back BB and a HBP that brought in two runs).

This would have to be considered a big upset. Powell is reigning champions of the 2A state baseball tournament and is thought by most to be the favorite to win the 14th region.

I’d say it is. Powell took 3/4 from Estill this season but Estill got it when it mattered.

powell now has to go through Letcher (who knocked off Knott), Hazard/Wolfe winner (if Powell gets passed Letcher) to even make it to the region tournament the one of the following (Estill/Leslie or Knott/Breathitt)

I was told that Powell had a very good catcher and all around player that was hurt against Breathitt and may not play the rest of the season. He is a key player for the Pirates. The catcher is more important than many realize. One who has the ability to not allow balls to get past him and can also hold runners on first base is so valuable. If he is not able to return it may hurt their chances of winning a regional title.
