10th Region: Week 9

Featured Replies

It’s been a quiet week in the 10th Region, wouldn’t you say?

1. George Rogers Clark

W – Bourbon County (76-39)
W – Montgomery County (73-56)

The Cardinals (19-1) have two wins of 40th District opponents this week. Things were looking interesting against Montgomery County, who was leading the Cards at the end of third quarter by one. However, Clark would outscore their district rival 29-11 in the fourth. They are now the #1 seed in the district tournament. Breland Morrison led with 20 points against Bourbon County. Reshaun Hampton led against Montgomery County with 23 points. Like a typical Josh Cook team, Clark is well-rounded offensively with four players averaging double figures: Hampton 19.4, Morrison 13.2, Ashford 11.9, Gay 11.1. Montez Gay leads in rebounds with 7.0 and JP Gaines gets 5.9 per game.

2. Campbell County

W – Scott (73-61)

The Camels (14-4) got down 16-4 after Scott came out hot, going 4/4 on threes just four minutes into the game. From there, Campbell would slowly battle back and take their first lead late in the third quarter. The Camels would go on to win and secure the #1 seed in the 37th District Tournament. Connor Weinel led with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Garyn Jackson had 10 points, 10 steals, and 8 assists.

3. Harrison County

L – Lexington Christian (66-69 – OT)
W – Pendleton County (57-44)
W – Robertson County (108-32)

The Thorobreds (7-11) got two district wins and are now 3-0 in the district. Harrison County is back at full strength with Kaydon Custard picking up right where he left off, averaging 25 points per game. Elijah Harris led with 18 points against Pendleton County and is averaging 15 points.

4. Augusta

W – Robertson County (70-30)
L – Walton-Verona (39-65)

The Panthers (12-5) had a disappointing showing at the All “A” Classic State Tournament in Corbin. Walton-Verona won comfortably and then lost to Lyon County by 12. Kylan Hinson was their leading scorer with 10 points. Hinson is averaging 18.7 points and 6.5 rebounds.

5. Mason County

W – East Jessamine (71-58)
L – Boone County (60-67)
W – Cov. Holy Cross (63-58)

The Royals (13-7) will play the rest of the season without Blake Reed or Cayden Reed, who were removed from the team on Sunday and did not play this week except for three minutes against East Jessamine. So where does Mason County go from here? They have done well in games without Blake Reed, who was their leading scorer. Now, they are without point guard Cayden Reed who led the team in steals, assists, and was second in rebounds. Despite the absence of the two players this week, Mason County was still competitive. Braylon Hamilton scored 22 against East Jessamine and Braeden Myrick scored 16 points going 4 of 6 from three. In the loss at Boone County, sophomore Jake Feldhaus led with 22 points. Against Hoy Cross, Braylon Hamilton led with 20 points.

6. Scott

W – Boone County (74-63)
L – Campbell County (61-73)

The Eagles (11-10) defeated a solid Boone County team on the road thanks to their scoring by committee offense, which had five players in double figures. The Eagles battled with Campbell County and led until late in the third quarter. Dylan Giffen led with 13 points.

7. Pendleton County

L – Harrison County (44-57)

Pendleton County (10-10) moves to an even record. They will play Harrison, Nicholas, and Robertson County once more to finish out the 38th District standings. Alex Beyst is their leading scorer with 16 points per game.

8. Paris

L – Bracken County (63-65)
W – Montgomery County (51-40)
L – Louisville Collegiate (53-55)

They Greyhounds (6-12) started off the week with a loss to Bracken County in Brooksville. However, they finished it off by defeating Montgomery County to be 2-1 in the 40th District Standings. Elijah Webb and Jakari Ransom both had 20 against Bracken County. Monte Jackson led with 19 against Montgomery and Elijah Webb had 15 against Louisville Collegiate. Jakari Ransom is averaging 15.9 points for Paris and is still battling a chronic knee injury which he has been playing though.

9. Montgomery County

W – Fleming County (80-74)
L – Paris (40-51)
L – George Rogers Clark (56-73)

The Indians (8-13) are the most inconsistent team in the region. They can beat anyone and lose to anyone which was evident this week. They defeated a top 16th Region team Fleming County, then lost to Paris, then battled with GRC for three quarters. Luke Fawns scored 30 points against and was 6 of 10 from three with 10 rebounds against Fleming. Fawns had 15 against Clark and Breccan Decker had 14.

10. Bourbon County

L – George Rogers Clark (39-76)
L – Carroll County (42-52)

The Colonels (8-11) have been struggling since the WGM Tournament at Lexington Catholic. Bourbon County has only won one game since Christmas, which was a ten point win over Nicholas County. They are 1-5 in 2024. Kade Hilander leads the team with 13.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.

Big week in the 38th (more so on the girl's side of things) with all 4 teams in district seeding games.

Also, The placement of Mason County at 5 after the Reed's departure is spot on.  Yes, it's left a hole, but that team is far from out of the conversation.
