SSF's 12th Region Round-Up Poll

Featured Replies

1. Lincoln County (13-5, 8-0)

Coach Jackson has his Patriots at the top of the 12th Region, posting a very impressive 8-0 mark. They're winners of five straight, and seven of their last eight. Five consecutive region wins put the Patriots at the top of everyones poll to win the region.

2. East Jessamine (9-9, 6-2)

The Jags are on a roll. They've won five of their last six, including a blow-out win against top five foe, West Jessamine. East is hitting the stride at the right time as they host McCreary Central Friday in what could send the Raiders to three straight losses. Look for the Jaguars to continue to win and make a run in the region tournament.

3. Somerset (8-9, 6-4)

Somerset had won five straight before they lost a close one at West Jessamine. The Jumpers had double-digit wins in five straight region games against some of their region rivals Southwestern and Pulaski. The Jumpers could go 8-0 to end their regular season, but they host the best team in the 13th Region, South Laurel, on Feb. 9th and it will be a dandy.

4. West Jessamine (10-6, 5-3)

The Colts have won seven of their last nine, including a big win over #3 Somerset. West Jessamine's schedule will continue to be grueling as they will host East Jessamine, and then travel to Sayre, Lafayette, and then travel to possibly the best team in the state, Scott County. Their record might not look to nice when the regular season is over, but this team is capable of making a run at the regional title.

5. Southwestern (10-5, 7-3)

Southwestern has a 4-0 record in the 48th, which was predicted to go the McCreary Central, and their last two district games will be at McCreary and Wayne. The Warriors look like a lock for #1 seed and an automatic win against Monticello. Their schedule should favor them, except games against West Jessamine and at #1 Lincoln County.

6. Wayne County (10-7, 6-2)

The Cardinals are suprising this year because they've more than tripled last years win total. They stand at a solid 4-1 in the district and host Southwestern and could possibly tie for the lead with a win. Should they tie and become the #1 seed, they'll face Monticello in the first-round. They play better against some teams. They only beat Monticello by thirty, but went on to beat McCreary by twenty-two.

7. Pulaski County (11-7, 2-5)

Probably one of the hardest teams to get any information from is the Maroons from Pulaski County. They'll have poor performances against some teams, and then play great against others. They're 2-3 in their last five, and one of those losses was by 12 to Lincoln County at home. If they play like a team and feed the post, they'll be hard to beat in the post-season.

8. McCreary Central (11-6, 4-4)

The Raiders haven't performed when it has mattered the most. After a 10-point loss at Wayne earlier this year, I projected them to win at home. They lost by twenty-two at home to the Cardinals. If the Raiders don't right the ship before the district tournament, the projected #1 team will be embarassed.

9. Garrard County (10-7, 3-2)

The Golden Lions haven't played many region games, but boast an impressive 2-1 record in their district. Garrard lost by twelve at Lincoln County, and if they continue to improve, they could possibly knock off Lincoln at home.

10. Boyle County (6-9, 4-3)

The Rebels have lost six of their last eight, but they are riding a two-game winning streak. Boyle, projected as a top team in 2006-07, has been dissappointing, to say the least. With one of the top players in the region, Perrin, joining their team, they were thought to make another run at the region title. Their schedule certainly doesn't get easier, and if they could get knocked out of a chance to go back to the regions if Garrard continues to play well.

Reminder: This is how teams are playing as of now.

These two teams play in Lancaster on Saturday night. We'll get a good idea of where both stand then.

As for Garrard knocking off Lincoln @ Garrard, the Golden Lions will have to be much better on the boards than they were in the opener and will need to avoid turnovers.

Is Garrad playing Lincoln or Boyle saturday?
