Owensboro 61 Apollo 21

Featured Replies

Owensboro’s running game was the highlight of the night with Hampton running close to 300 yards(don’t have the exact stats)..  Apollo is showing some improvements offensively. QB Max Johnson who I believe is just a freshman is the guy the Eagles want to build the program around. When given time he was able to pick the Devils secondary apart. Eagles have some potential moving forward if the players/program/parents can just come together and believe in coach Edges system. Although the defense still has a long way to go.

Apollo has some nice freshmen and sophomore talent on both sides of the ball. They pretty much make that team. Edge finally might have some talented players at Apollo.  What he did at Apollo the first two years was probably one of the best coaching jobs. They beat DC, Catholic twice, Henderson, North Hardin and Central Hardin. I have not seen Apollo do that for a long time. Then they hit a lull in talent.

Watching last night even though the defense didn't look great they had some young kids play hard. The future looks bright on Tamarack Rd.

What amazes me is his ability to get a player recruited. As an Owensboro fan, I'm jealous of this because we have way more talent at Owensboro then Apollo and he's getting coaches to bite on his kids.

Having been around the program since Crume was HC, then Hawk, and now Edge; I’ve been saying the Covid year in 2020 set Edge back by at least two years. His first year being 2020, he never got an opportunity to really put his system in play. Then they had the 5th year kids from the supplemental season stick around when an argument could be made that he would have been better served had they graduated.

A few parents having unrealistic expectations for their kids and taking them across town to other programs later and he’s finally getting an opportunity to dig out of the hole.

I am enjoying watching Johnson improve with every game. I think we have a legit shot against Graves this week. Madisonville and Marshall are certainly vulnerable l, as is DC. We may not win out the rest of the season, but finishing on an upswing is certainly possible.
