Notes

-The results in the region have by and large descended into chaos for 7th and below.  So there's a whole lot of "this team lost to some other team ranked below them" - and in some cases "well below them".

-The Region 4 KBCA released their all-region teams this past week.  Warren Central's Chappelle Whitney took home player of the year honors and was joined on the first-team by teammate Kade Unseld.  Warren East’s Isaiah Andrews, Barren County’s Eli Brooks, and Bowling Green’s MJ Wardlow rounded out the first team.  Second team honors went to Jalen Briscoe (Franklin-Simpson), Jamison Glass (Todd County Central), Omari Glover (Warren Central), Mason Ritter (Bowling Green), and Brandon Rowe (South Warren).  Third team honors went to Jax Allen (Metcalfe County), Wyatt Blythe (Metcalfe County), Lofton Howard (Greenwood), Isaiah Villafuerte (Warren Central), and Damarion Walkup (Warren Central).  William Unseld from Warren Central was named Region 4 coach of the year.

-The top game of the week has its own thread:

Unlike their first matchup, this one was worthy of the 1 v 2 billing (and matchup of #1 and #11 in the state), as it took extra time to settle the game, but ultimately Warren Central managed to battle back from a nine point third quarter deficit to extend their home winning streak to 17 games and maintain a 13 game win streak overall.  Bowling Green started the game shooting 19/29 from the field en route to that nine point lead, and at one point had a 24-4 run.  They have served notice that they are capable of winning this region.  The win did clinch the #1 seed for Warren Central, who will meet homestanding Greenwood in the district tournament.

-Speaking of Greenwood, they put a scare into South Warren.  The Gators have struggled most of this season, but played right there with two top six teams in the region this week, falling by three apiece to Barren County and South Warren.  Against South Warren, Greenwood led by as many as seven in the third quarter, and had a very long possession to end the game looking for a tying three pointer, but ultimately failed to get a good shot off, settling for a desperation three as time expired that airballed.  They had a similar mistake against Barren County, driving inside the three point line to attempt a jumper down three as time expired, meaning they took an attempt with no chance to do anything for them.  In all likelihood, they are not going to have much of a chance to take down Warren Central in the district tournament, but are putting together some building blocks for next year.  Meanwhile, South Warren clinched the #3 seed and a date with Bowling Green in the district tournament in two weeks.  That's the matchup that was anticipated all year long, but it's official now.

-The 13th District didn't settle a whole lot this week, as we had the pair of matchups between #3 Franklin-Simpson and #11 Russellville.  The two games were decided by double digits, and the road team took the victory in both games.  Russellville shot the lights out in the first meeting, despite just scoring 55 points.  They shot 62.1% from the floor and were 8/11 from three in the game, winning 55-44.   It was a decidedly different story the second game, as Russellville could only manage 38 points in a 50-38 loss.  It was 19 all at the half, but Franklin nearly doubled their total, and held a 36-26 advantage entering the fourth, and were never seriously challenged in the final frame.  The results leave Franklin-Simpson in first currently at 4-1 in district play, with one game remaining against Logan County.  They cannot fall further than the #2 seed now, and given the relative ease of their final game, appear very likely to put themselves in position for at least a tie for #1.  Russellville is 3-1 in district play, but has the far more difficult week, with two games against Todd County Central, who sit at 2-2 in district play.  If Russellville sweeps the meetings, they'll either be tied for #1 or have it outright (if Franklin loses to Logan County).  Todd County Central can no longer play their way up to #1, as the best they would be able to do would be a tie at 4-2 with Franklin-Simpson, who would win the tiebreaker by virtue of a season sweep over the Rebels.  In many ways, they're playing this week to determine who they play in the district tournament.  Beat Russellville at least once, and that's likely who they're going to see.  Logan County is locked into the #4 seed at 0-5 in the district currently.

-Warren East slammed the door shut on any change in the district seeding in the 15th District with a pair of blowout wins over Glasgow and Allen County-Scottsville.  Their loss earlier in the year at Glasgow was frankly, stunning.  Isaiah Andrews made sure no repeat happened, dropping in 23 points on 8/14 shooting and 6/6 shooting from the line, fueling a 66-46 blowout that meant they could be no worse than the 3 seed at that point.  They followed that with a 69-52 win over Allen County-Scottsville.  Had AC/S won that game, they could have played themselves into a tie for the #3 seed with a win at Glasgow this week.  It was tight at the half with East clinging to a 28-26 lead, but they opened the third quarter on an 18-3 run and that was all she wrote.  Caiden Murrell (16) and Ka'Jarius Barber (13) joined Isaiah Andrews (18) in double figures of a more balanced scoring effort.  The Raiders are starting to heat up at the right time, winning their fifth in a row, their longest win streak since December 2018.  They've won 8 of 9 overall, and they now know exactly what they will need to advance to their first region tournament in 26 years - a win at home over Glasgow in the district tournament on what I'd expect will be February 22nd.  Allen County-Scottsville will play Barren County in the other semifinal.

-The 16th District has only one seed of their five locked into place with only one game left to play - Clinton County is 5-3 and will be the #3 seed, as the best they can do is tie Metcalfe County and they'd lose the head to head tiebreak.  The Bulldogs have quietly won 4 of 5, and their 10-5 record in region play is more impressive when you recognize that their five losses have come by a combined 10 points.  That includes a double overtime one point loss at Monroe County, and a one point loss to Metcalfe County in January.  This week they kept the district's #1 seed in doubt by knocking off Monroe County 68-61, as Cannon Young dropped in 22 points on 9/12 shooting.  That put a lot more pressure on Monroe County's subsequent matchup with Russell County, but the Falcons were equal to the task, smashing the Lakers 75-46 at home, to conclude their district slate at 6-2.  A couple of weeks they were 5-0 in district play in complete control of their destiny, but rivals Metcalfe County and Clinton County each beat them, and so now their eyes will turn to Metcalfe County's game on Monday, when the Hornets visit Cumberland County.  Metcalfe County won by a razor-thin 60-58 margin when the two teams met at Metcalfe County in December, and Cumberland County notably won the region's All "A" tournament which every 16th District team other than Russell County competed in.  This game is no certainty.  If Metcalfe County loses, then it's all locked into place - Monroe as the top seed, Metcalfe County the 2 seed, Clinton County the 3 seed, and Cumberland County and Russell County meeting in the 4/5 matchup (which seed is which for them decided by a coin toss).  If Metcalfe County wins, then it'll come down to a coin toss for the #1 seed.  Clinton County will be the 3 seed as previously mentioned, and in this scenario Russell County would clinch #4 with Cumberland County settling for #5.  These teams are all highly competitive so a good seed is a guarantee of nothing, but they'll still likely want that 1 seed.  It may be most interesting to Clinton County, who were swept by Metcalfe County this year while going 1-2 against Monroe County, and Metcalfe County is also notably the host of the district.

Great Game between BG and Central!  Was told it was a great crowd and atmosphere!  That's the way its supposed to be!  Looking forward to the other match ups, but hopefully the Region battle for another shot at what I think is the best team in the State.

East seems to be playing very well, as Andrews is clearly a terrific player.  Franklin just doesn't seem in the same zip code with the above.  And the 16th is just a razor thin margin as to who will come out I think.
