14th Region Week 4 Review

Featured Replies

Christmas and New Years have came and gone and now we're midways through the season. We have sectional tournaments coming up this week. Most teams played in tournaments this past week.

1) Hazard (9-2): Hazard was off last week. Bulldogs enter this week ranked #22 in state.

2) Perry County Central (6-9): The Commodores have hit a rough spot, losing all three games in the Ashland Invitational. Lincoln County 66-54, Blue Ridge (St. George) VA 57-54, The Caramel School (Ruther Glen) VA 54-53. With all three losses, the Commodores skid streak has now reached 5 games. Sophomore guard Rydge Beverly has been sidelined with an injury. Maybe when he returns he can light a fire in this commodore team.

3) Breathitt County (7-5): Breathitt County drops two out of three at the Mountain Schoolboy Classic at Belfry. The Bobcats lost the first two games of the tournament to Betsy Layne 71-60 and Pike County Central 67-65. Breathitt County would defeat South Gibson (Medina) TN 72-54. The win snaps a three game losing streak for the Bobcats.

4) Letcher County Central (9-5): LCC won their only game of the week last week, defeating Lee (Jonesville) VA 67-44 on the road.

5) Estill County (6-4): Engineers finish third in their Railroad Classic. Estill County wouldn't have any trouble getting past Menifee County in the first round, defeating the Wildcats 78-63. Estill County would have a little tougher challenge in the winners bracket as they would take on Paintsville. After a furious comeback by Estill after falling down double digits Estill was able to take the lead late but once Paintsville re-took the lead, they would go on to win 73-70. Estill County would host Bardstown Bethlehem in the third place game. Estill County would defeat the Eagles 65-58 after a back and forth battle.

6) Wolfe County (8-6): Wolves won all three games last week, defeating; Somerset Christian School 69-62, Cumberland County 83-79, and Lynn Camp 64-59. Wolves have now won 4 straight games. Can they keep up the winning ways?

7) Knott County Central (4-8): KCC split two games this past week, falling 71-51 to Morgan County on the road but picking up a home win over Powell County 51-33.

8 ) Powell County (4-7): Pirates fell 51-33 to Knott County Central on the road. Pirates have now dropped 3 straight.

9) Lee County (6-7): Lee County dropped two out of three in Bill Perkins Holiday Classic at Williamsburg. The Bobcats had a good showing against Newport Central Catholic falling 94-90, Lee County would go on to face First Baptist Academy (Powell) TN and the Bobcats would lose 55-48. Lee County would face off against Grace Christian Academy (Knoxville) TN the Bobcats would bring home the win 66-58.

10) Buckhorn (6-3): Buckhorn was off last week.

11) Leslie County (8-7)

12) Owsley County (2-9)

13) Jackson City (2-10)

14) Cordia (0-13)

Notable Games:

Monday: Powell County at Estill County (2A Sectionals, Winner advances to face Greenup County on Wednesday)

Tuesday: Buckhorn at Lee County

Wednesday: Perry County Central at Breathitt County

Thursday: Clay County at Letcher County Central; Menifee County at Wolfe County

Friday: Estill County at Lee County; Owsley County at Powell County

Saturday: Knott County Central at Cordia; Owsley County at Leslie County.

Hazard not top 25 in the state for sure, Wolfe Co should be ahead of Estill Co, Perry Central not #2 in region.

Hazard comes in ranked 22 in KHSAA. Per Hazard Athletics.

Estill beat Wolfe by 40. Not sure where you get that Wolfe should be above Estill.

Estill 82-50 over Wolfe

Estill 70-34 over Owsley

Wolfe 69-63 over Owsley

???

Perry isn’t #1 in region. Hazard is. We’ll find out Wednesday just how good both Perry and Breathitt is.

Was just saying that I didn’t think Hazard was a top 25 team, and just giving my thoughts on remaining teams.
