Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Everyone!

 

We are in the final week leading up to the greatest holiday known to man, Christmas. We get to see more basketball this week but let’s not get ahead of ourselves and take a look back to see what all transpired throughout the 14th Region in week 2. 

1) Hazard (6-2): Bulldogs continue to roll through competition. Hazard picked up three more wins this week including huge district win over Perry County Central 53-50. Hazard would also defeat both Owsley County 78-55 and Pike County Central 65-42 in the Big Lou Classic. 

2) Breathitt County (4-2): Breathitt County came into the week having lost two straight. Could the Bobcats rebound and get back into the win column? We’ll they had two chances on back to back nights with one of them being on the road against district for, Wolfe County. Bobcats would have to claw their way back in this one. Fans got an extra 4 minutes as the game would go into overtime.  Breathitt County would go on to edge out the Wolves 82-77 to improve to 3-2 and 1-0 district. Breathitt County would head up to Perry County Central to participate in the Big Lou Classic. Bobcats would take on McCreary Central. The Raiders wouldn’t have nothing on the Bobcats as Breathitt pulled out a 77-65 win. 
 

3) Perry County Central (5-4): Commodores dropped 2 out of 3 games this past week. Losing 106-83 to Martin County and a heart breaker to district and crosstown rival, Hazard 53-50. Perry County Central would bounce back and pick up a 87-35 win over Ligon Cogo Home School on Saturday in the Big Lou Classic. 

4) Letcher County Central (5-3): LCC picked up another district win this past week cruising past Cordia 46-17. The win puts LCC on a 3 game win streak and 2-0 in district play. 
 

5) Estill County (2-2): Engineers dropped their only game last week falling to Morgan County 60-45 in a not so close contest. 
 

6) Wolfe County (3-4): Wolves continue to struggle. Wolves were able to slip past Owsley County 69-63 last week but would fall to Breathitt County in an overtime thriller 82-77. What can Coach Creech due to bounce back and put some solid wins together?

7) Knott County Central (2-4): KCC split two games last week getting drilled by district foe Letcher County Central by 30, 74-44. KCC would bounce back and pick up an exciting thrilling overtime win over Buckhorn 69-64. Still awaiting game score for Saturdays game with Western Hills. 
 

8 ) Powell County (4-5): Pirates made some climbs this week after picking up a big district win over Lee County 81-73. Pirates also picked up a win over Jackson City 84-56 but would fall to Prestonsburg 87-69. 
 

9) Lee County (5-3): Bobcats got the season off to a good start but have since dropped two of their previous three games falling to Powell County 81-73 and Oneida Baptist Institute 68-63. Lee County lone win last week came against Owsley County as they defeated the Owls 72-56. Lee County has been without their big center and one of their guards who should be back in January. 
 

10) Buckhorn (5-2): Buckhorn started the season off good but gone 2-2 in their last 4 games dropping Lee County 83-70, Knott County Central 69-64 but defeating Jackson City 73-60 and Ligon Cogo Home School 68-58. 
 

11) Leslie County (3-5)

14) Cordia (0-8)
