BluegrassPreps.com 14th Region Week 2 Review

Featured Replies

We're through week 2 in the 14th region. We've had some games that has surprised people and we've had games where games went as expected. We've seen blowouts and we've seen games that went down to the wire. Let's see what changed in week 2 of the 14th region.

1) Hazard (3-2): Hazard as well as the other top 3 teams in the 14th reigon, participated in the WYMT Mountain Classic at John C. Combs Arena, Perry County Central. Hazard would come up just short in they're opening game to Harlan Independent 49-48. This would send the Bulldogs to the consolation side of the bracket where they would face off against Martin County (Who was defeated by Breathitt County 50-47 in the opening round). Again, Hazard would find them selves in the loss column after a 63-57 defeat. Bulldogs three game win streak to open up the season was snapped.

2) Perry County Central (4-2): The Commodores opened up the WYMT Mountain Classic with back to back wins defeating Betsy Layne 78-67 and edging out Harlan County in a thriller 52-50 to advance to the championship game where they would take on Harlan Independent. Commodores wasn't able to overcome the Green Dragons as they would fall 66-56 in the championship game.

3) Breathitt County (2-2): The Bobcats went 1-2 in the WYMT Mountain Classic, defeating Martin County in an absolute thriller 50-47 before falling to both Harlan Independent 75-56 and Harlan County 82-57. Bobcats were originally scheduled to play Cordia on Monday but that game was canceled so they're next game will be on the road at district rival Wolfe County.

4) Letcher County Central (3-3): Letcher County Central won they're only game of the week last week, defeating Twin Springs VA 62-48.

5) Estill County (2-1): The Engineers picked up two very big and convincing wins this past week, crushing both Wolfe County 82-50 and Owsley County 70-36. Engineers had led by 40 at one point over Wolfe County. Engineers held Owsley County scoreless in the 1st quarter.

6) Lee County (4-1): Lee County added to they're win total last week defeating both Jackson City 87-61 and Buckhorn 83-70. Senior Zach Watterson continues leading the way for the Bobcats averaging 26 points a game.

7) Buckhorn (3-1): Wildcats seen they're three game win streak snapped this week when they fell to Lee County 83-70.

8 ) Wolfe County (2-3): Wolfe County took one on the chin last week when they fell to Estill County 82-50. This was very surprising as they two teams usually play close games.

9) Knott County Central (1-3): Patriots dropped they're two games in the WYMT Mountain Classic this week, falling pretty hard in both games, 63-40 to Harlan County and 78-41 to Betsy Layne. Patriots have a very long way to go.

10) Leslie County (2-3): Eagles finally get in the win column defeating both Jenkins 75-62 and Wellspring Guardians Home School 77-65.

11) Powell County (2-4)

12) Owsley County (2-3)

13) Jackson City (1-3)

14) Cordia (0-6)

Notable Games This Week:

Tuesday: Perry County Central at Martin County; Powell County at Lee County

Thursday: Perry County Central at Hazard; Morgan County at Estill County

Friday: Breathitt County at Wolfe County

Very disappointed in Breathitt Co., something must be happening with this team loaded with talent again this season,

Incase anyone is wondering, for the top 3 I went by the Harlan Independent games to get these rankings.
