Strength On Strength As Mountain Heavyweights Trade Body Blows

Records: JC (7-2) | Belfry (5-4)

BGP Ranking: JC (#4 in 4A) | Belfry (#6 in 3A)

Series History: Belfry leads 29-9 all-time

Table Setter: The annual regular season capper between these EKY goliaths seldom produces the classic we hope for, but that never seems to dampen enthusiasm for the potential of what may unfold when JC and Belfry get together.

Both appear vulnerable this year, and maybe…. just maybe a notch below their yearly championship standard. Belfry saw its iron fisted grip on 3A District 8 loosened by a trip to the "Dawg Pound" and the Golden Eagles needed a last minute comeback against Letcher Central to avoid suffering the same fate. Lawrence County and Letcher Central are no slouches, but those games have mostly been formalities in the past.

Both offenses are a perfect example of the old adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". JC boasts one of the deepest backfields you'll find anywhere, headlined by sophomore Zack McCoart, the next great running back in Johnson County. Belfry's Dre Young has restored the fear factor to the fullback position for the Pirates. After years of prioritizing halfback speed on the edges, Young has made fullback option #1 again for Philip Haywood. Two offenses that prominently feature a fullback? What a concept.

With both teams still in search of their apex predator form, we might get a full tilt affair that lives up to the names on the front of the jerseys.

Bump.

Looks like there will be paid video of this one:
